Default Today was the first time I tried Creed aventus

I was at work and I end up having a conversation about colognes well the guy I talkn said he owns a 8oz bottle also he had a traveler bottle...we talked and I was telling him about basenotes and how popular this Creed was..he let me try it it was a very nice smell, but too me it wasn't unique at all or even worth the price , he told me he bought one bottle of creed A thu fragrancenet,he said the fluid was clear and want pleased and I guess he just stored and bought from Creed's website ...he said it was different from the one he bought on fragnet..so he kept telling me that those suppliers are FAKE I WAS LIKE NAH, so I told him what I own and bought from fragx , she says all my stuff was fake I laughed , he said there's only 3 places Creed company sells too..I explained to him if he knows how to spot a fake and he said I don't ...iv ebee doing this way too long to be fooled from a company, so then I told him about a store about a mall that sells Creed again he said he bets it all fake , he young man early 20s and thinks he knows it all, I explained to him , none of them fake and u should let it sit for a couple weeks or months to let settle , well neways Creed is a nice colgne but there is no way I'll buy a bottle that it will last 3 hour or 4 hours on my skin , what u guys think

    It's ok, nothing great.

Absolutely nowhere close to stuff like Antaeus or Musc Ravageur.

The longevity is really poor, and whilst I felt like you at first - "is this it!?" - it's become one of my favourites and it's survived a serious culling approach toe my fragrane wardrobe. It's just so utterly, utterly versatile, smells modern yet classical, and is basically impossible to offend. That is rare in male perfumery - in perfumery in general. No doubt this will get moved to the Anvetus subforum soon enough, where youll only encounter fans, for the most part, but though you make fair and no doubt common observations (I agree it's not 'amazing' nor vastly different from other things, and is horrendously overpriced, it should be about £1/ml not £2+/ml), it deserves most of its success.

As for the 'fake' chat, it all sounds a bit confusing tbh, but I doubt any are fake.

Happening to personally own and use this fragrance-while perhaps not 100% a personal favorite Creed, still considering this among the more decent releases from this house and getting easily above 3-4 performance from it (more like the double, if counting skin scent tier, almost the triple lasting time)

Plenty of good choices with Chanel. I recommend vintage bottles of Egoiste, Antaeus, and Pour Monsieur as well as modern stuff like Allure Homme Edition Blanche. The Les Exclusifs have a good selection like Sycomore and Coromandel.

Frederic Malle has a great selection well. In addition to Musk Ravager, Vetiver Extraordinaire and Portrait Of A Lady are excellent choices.

I don't know shit about Creed , but one thing for sure I do know is fragX, Fragnet sells real shit , tmrow I'll be at the mall to check this place out that sells Creed and check out bottles and batch numbers on it , and ask how is it they can sell Creed ? Silver Mountain Water is one of the worst Creeds for me. Aventus is probably my favorite, but it hugs the line of cloying.

I think we are spoilt for choice now -- Aventus has almost revolutionised mens fragrances.

In 2010, in the week it was launched and when I first tried it, I literally had to sit down and savour it in the Harvey Nichols store.. I had never smelt anything quite like it before.

I don't think that first batch has ever been surpassed.

The main problem I see with Creed charging so much for their products is that people are willing to go to extraordinary lengths to tamper with it or create fakes and get a piece of that huge price tag, this in turn puts a lot of cheap bad, or even diluted juice on the secondary market. Some people on eBay have found ingenious ways to breach into the real bottles. This will in turn hurt Creed's brand reputation as many people believe they have the real thing and it's underwhelming when in fact they were sampling or buying a full on fake, clone or extremely diluted version of the real thing. So unless you are buying from the Creed boutique, a reputable store in person you don't really know what is real. So do me a favor and straight up buy a sample from Creed's boutique so when you decide to buy online from a non reputable source you have a control for comparison. A small price to pay for knowledge. The smartest thing Creed has done was make large oz flacons so sellers aren't tempted to tamper with anything to make a reasonable profit. The downside is most people don't have $1,300+ lying around and those flacons are wide open for tampering.

Prior to coming to basenotes, I never thought of it as some type of revolutionary release that everyone goes nuts over. I bought a bottle of GIT over Aventus and it wasn't even a contest to me. I still like Aventus and think it's great stuff, but not worthy of the attention it gets.

Agree that Silver Mountain Water is one of the worst Creeds, but my favorites are Royal Oud and Bois du Portugal.

Aventus is close behind those two, but (at the risk of annoying everybody with batch discussion) current Aventus is almost not even the same stuff as Aventus from 5+ years ago. I treasure my 14L01 and 15U11 bottles. It certainly is a masterpiece scent, copied endlessly but never duplicated, and one of the great things about it is its versatility, it goes from summer formal to winter casual with ease.

There's nothing unique about it at all, TOM FORD LINE UP HAS BETTER SCENTS

In 2010, I can't think of another mens fragrance that paired pineapple with smoke

The current formulation is not unique at all you are correct, but it is still a very nice fragrance.

I don't know which Aventus batch it was as I only had a sample and card which I tossed away long ago but I do know it was pre 2012 based on the note breakdown and my batch hunt has gotten me down to 2013 which wasn't the same, this fragrance it was smoky, sort of peppery and a watery apple with a scent aura that lingered for many many hours and refused to dissipate, the scent would go from almost pure alcohol and climb it's way up the ladder in projection to pineapple/apple, then chypre woody then transform into smoke, but not a smoke I am familiar with.
A perfect balance of chypre wood and smoke that captivated me like no other fragrance has or likely ever will. I can't believe Creed reformulated it (there was talk of people pining for fruitier versions with less smoke and I suppose it slowly became more mass appealing and less niche, and the performance has followed suit). I feel like they need to bring it back to revive it's reputation as a niche fragrance channeling Napoleon Bonaparte, because the current formulation is too fruity, fleeting and... nice, I doubt anyone would refer to Napoleon as a fruity nice guy.

I've no idea what affected anyone to " have to sit down " after trying it it's nothing more than a decent scent to me ( or was 7 years ago ) and ridiculously overpriced.
I think anyone buying it at authorized retailer prices is a fool,

GIT gave me that reaction, though without the cheese and overdramatization and exaggeration. I was pretty blown away by it.
