Cool New to Basenotes but collecting for a while....

Hello and good morning fellow Basenoters out there. This is my first posting on here but I've been collecting all types of fragrances and perfumes for about 2 years now and have accumulated around 70 full bottles ranging from the more basic but beautiful Dior Homme Intense to the more upscale Bortnikoff Oud Maximus and I have to say that I really enjoy all of my fragrances, but I feel as though I am either gravitating towards either things like Chanel Les Exclusifs line, the range of Hermessence, Gerlain's art's & materials line, or higher end oud's such as Xerjoff's oud stars line, ALD, Bortnikoff's, and such similar offerings. I feel that this is such a great hobby, I feel that I've definitely driven head first into it and enjoying researching new fragrances and testing new things out. I'm looking forward to getting to know many of you on here and enjoying sharing and commenting on this passion that we all adore so much.

Hey Fragrant Vagrant and thank you, I remember being a young man and wearing Polo Sport and CK Eternity when I was younger and liking them, but I think that I really got into fragrance because I did 3 tours in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne and something about the smell of burning gasoline and explosives stuck with me and really bothered me, even just going to the gas station to fill up would bring on bad or painful memories for me, so I had heard about a few veterans who got into fragrance as a way to take their mind off of unpleasant experiences so I figured I would do the same, and it really has worked wonderfully for me. I see this as a huge stress reliever for myself and a nice way to cope with issues, an escape more or less in which I could completely get lost in. How did you get involved?

Thanks, I'm not sure why it took me so long, I love to read the articles and listen to others describe what they smell and how they interpret certain fragrances, and notes, but glad I'm here now.

What a powerful story! Might I suggest you check out Soft Lawn by Imaginary Authors? It's my go-to scent for peace of mind, relaxation and comfort.

I have to check this out, if for nothing more than the tennis ball note listed!! I do love my green scents and have usually used florals as my peace and relaxation type of scents. What is this similar to as I can't think of anything that would be comparable??

My favorite green scents would be in no particular order:
    -Sycomore
    -French Lover
    -GIT
    -Spice and Wood
    -Beaver - zoologist
    -vetiver edt by guerlain
    -Angelique Noir

Imaginary Authors is definitely a house that I would be interested to get to know better, thanks so much for the information.

Welcome, chad_721! That is a very deep and touching motivation for turning to fragrance. I have not experienced anything like what you describe but can attest to the haven of perfume as therapy in dealing with various issues or problems in my own life. Perfume can do alot to help a person overcome difficulties. I have been "involved" with perfume for a long time, starting at a young age by just smelling nice things, flowers, soap, grass, grandfather's workshop, etc. Wishing you many fragrant and happy days!

I know that scent is an extremely powerful mechanism for memory and remembrance, I also like to think of all of the wonderful memories to come that I will make along the way with fragrances and what journey's too look forward to making with friends and family by my side. Thank you so much for your kind words and also wishing the best for you as well!!

I'm a big fan of Sycomore. Imaginary Authors is one of my favorite houses. I haven't encountered anything quite like Soft Lawn before. IA has many very original scents.

Since you like green scents, one of my favorites is Mito Extrait by Vero Profumo. Very deep juicy jungle-like fragrance with beastly longevity.
