Cool Newly interested in the world of fragrance

In the past I have very sparsely used cologne although I really enjoy it. Lately I have become more interested as my wife purchased me a bottle of Bamboo, and I love it! When it ran out I purchased a bottle of Armaf Voyage and have enjoyed it. I currently have a bottle of 1 Million being shipped. I’m still trying to figure out what works best for me. I’m reading up on the fragrance wheel as well. Is their a site that tells you where on the fragrance wheel a particular cologne falls? If so, based on my preferences I could see what colognes in the future I’d be more willing to prefer. Thanks in advance for helping this newbie. God bless you each one!

If I can steer you in a direction, I would recommend looking at houses like Chanel, Dior, Guerlain as a starting point. You can definitely find something from these houses. It be best to spend a few visits at your local department store and trying out the different scents available. Also it be good ideas to take some samples back with you and do some research on some of the scents that you do enjoy that way you narrow down your interests. Hope that helps.

Welcome and enjoy the time here on Basenotes!

A good starting point for autumn/colder weather fragrances might also be (re) testing scents along the lines of but not limited to Burberry London, Eau des Baux, Jaipur Homme EDT and EDP, the AMen range by Mugler, Bogart pour Homme, Aramis Havana, among others, in no particular order.

Great "intro to fragrance" houses are Guerlain and Lalique because the quality/price ratio is generally in your favor.

I don't know Bamboo or Armaf Voyage. I've smelled 1 Million.

1 Million is interesting. I haven't seen it discussed much since I've been on the site. To me, it combines elements of classical styling with modern styling. It's interesting for a little while at least. I've never given it full wearings to try to bond with it.

Some things I think you might like:

    Aramis Havana
    Aramis Tuscany
    Bentley for Men Intense
    Burberry London
    Jaipur Homme
    Chanel Egoiste
    Chanel Platinum Egoiste

Check out discount sites such as FraganceNet.com and FragranceX.com.

If you want to try sampling first, you can try sites such as SurrendertoChance.com.

Welcome to basenotes! Great advice here so far! Check out Macy's, Sephora, Ulta, etc. and start sniffing and getting samples!

    Welcome!

I cannot think of a good public source of perfume classifications you can easily check. But if you read the reviews here on BN, you should be able to infer what a perfume is.

luckyscent.com is a great site that can give you lots of information, and you can find scents and filter through the site by notes or fragrance style. And while the samples can be a bit pricey, I think it’s well worth it. Very easy site to navigate!

+1 very nice classy fragrances, you can count on all of these houses to give you a nice masculine fragrance that smells excellent.

    Others I’d recommend sampling:

    Azzaro Azzaro Pour Homme
    Ralph Lauren Polo
    Nicolai New York Intense
    Boucheron Pour Homme
    Boucheron Jaïpur Homme
    Jacques Bogart “Signature”

Btw welcome to basebnotes, enjoy your time here!

Darn tootin. Biggest upside to me is that these houses give you a great opportunity to experience a lot of variety in a short span of time/money, which in turn gets you to asking yourself better questions about what you like or don’t like and doing more pointed research into fragrances trends and history.

They also tend to be very wearable too, which kinda helps.
