Thread: Classic Top 3?

  1. #1

    Default Classic Top 3?

Would it be fair to say that

    N. 5 by Chanel
    Joy by Jean Patou
    Shalimar by Guerlain

are the three most iconic female fragrances of all time?

My wife would probably agree with you on those.

I'd agree, although for personal use, I'd swap Shalimar with Dune or L'Heure Bleue,

Shalimar and No 5 for sure. I would argue YSL Opium as another contender.

Good call on the Opium, N.CAL.

My personal iconic classics are Bandit, Mitsouko, and Chanel No. 19.

Great listing, can fully understand why.

Perhaps not the most iconic, but if ever having to choose and compile a personal top 3 of classic (and partly more modern classic) favorites, this would most likely include in no particular order also:

    Le Dix by Balenciaga
Feminite du Bois by Shiseido but also its re-edition by Serge Lutens
Portrait of Lady by Frederic Malle

I think Mitsouko needs to be in there somewhere.

    My *personal* classic favorites:

    CHANEL Cuir de Russie
    CHANEL Bois des Iles
    Guerlain Mitsouko

3 is just too few for any such list. Your3 would certainly be in most lists.

Mitsouko cones to mind as a contender. L’origan as well, although it is now forgotten.

All mentioned are worthy of their iconic status, and of a top 3 position.

Can’t argue with those choices. My wife’s personal “iconic” choices would be Chanel No. 19, YSL Opium, and (probably) Hermès Calèche.

I think one would have to consider Caron Tabac Blond for inclusion.

Never only three, but my list would include these -- all vintage
