    Default Favorite pine/fir scents

I’ve been on a hunt for a scent that reminds me of Pacific Northwest conifer forests. Douglas fir, noble fir (Christmas tree), incense cedar, and Western hemlock are the main evergreens I find myself around, but fragrances can make similar impressions with pine notes as well.

The fragrance I’ve encountered that captures this best is Arso by Profumum Roma, but this one is quite expensive for its weak longevity. Cape Heartache by Imaginary Authors has a great fir note but it leans gourmand. Pino Silvestre may have been a good example in a previous formulation but my bottle smells very little like evergreens, particularly the ones I’m looking for. Fille en Aiguilles is incredible and has a beautiful pine note but isn’t squarely focused on it.

I want the other notes to be in the background:any woody, balsamic, green, earthy, incense, or spice notes are welcome as long as they’re in supporting roles.

OMG I'm an idiot. You listed Arso.

You know, a full bottle is expensive, but what about the travel size? If you have a sizable collection and won't wear it often, I think the travel size makes sense. Obviously, it's less expensive than a full bottle.

Perfumes of the Desert Piñon is a top-tier pine perfume, but as the house name suggests, the aromatic profile is more suggestive of the American southwest rather than the northwest. It's still very pleasant in winter.

I'm still waiting to find a *really* good forest-y, "pine trees in cold winter air" scent.

I love Piñon! I actually have a bottle of it. You’re right though: it’s not exactly evocative of the Northwest’s evergreens.

Patrick by Fragrances of Ireland perhaps - quite fernlike. Of the forest with a soapy undertone running through it.

Le Monarque V comes across as freshly sawn pine/fir and cedar with incense.

I haven’t been to the Northwest though.

I’ve thought about it! I’m waiting for my local shop to get it back in. How do you find the performance of this one?

As a former resident of Bend, I share the love of the scent of NW forests.

Norne is always the first thing that comes to mind with fir/forest. There's the conifers, the forest floor, a bit of spice, and a tiny amount of smoke.

If you like the smoky conifer vibe of Arso, you might like Euphorium Brooklyn Wald and Hendley Fume. La Curie Incendo is also in that realm, but dry.

HoM did a super fir heavy number called Future's Past, not sure if it is still available though. It came in a travel spray that, for me, was almost worth the price during a 50% off sale. Short lifespan, though.

    Have you tried Norne yet?

It's lasts long, but it wears closely in my experience. It's not for someone who wants everyone around to smell him. But that's the kind of thing that I like.

Ignore. I didn't see the supporting note requirements. Originally suggested Royal Mayfair.

I love Pino Silvestre and my 2018 "pine gems essence" bottle reeks of pine. To each his own though.

Yatagan would be my other go to for this type of scent although it's pretty musky as well.

The original Roma Uomo (orange juice color) has a bit of fir in the heart notes as well as the required supporting notes.

Sung Homme has a lot of pine also.

I know it's quite a well known and common one, but I find Bottega Venetta Pour Homme Parfum to be a good one, much nicer than the EDT, sweeter and also not as bright as the Extreme, although that might be a slightly better one for mega fir fans. The fir in Parfum is all I'd want, any more of it and it would be too much, it's right on the limit in the Parfum whilst the scent remains balanced and nice.

Imaginary Authors has another fir fragrance called Every Storm a Serenade. it has the effect of driving along the Pacific Northwest highway near the ocean. The spruce is quite evident here, but with some aquatic tones to give it a slight oceanic effect.

Baikal Gris from Areej le Dore fits the bill for me. It’s wonderful pine, fir and ambergris.

    Norne or Hwyl (Norne light).
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.

Amouage Bracken - I got a sample today and it seems to have a strong piney note(could be cypress, still coniferous) , very nice scent overall

Also, Terre d'Hermes - when I first sniffed this one it reminded me of fir resin (it's probably the benzoin, which is still a resin)

Le Vetiver Itasca by Lubin which is said to have Itasca red pine and Canadian fir balsam among many other notes. Definitely forest-y.

Also looking forward to trying A*Men Ultimate by Thierry Mugler.

Mousse Illuminee stood out to me. Italian Cypress is good one for they cypress/pine note.

One other that comes to mind is Creed Windsor, it has a prominent eucalyptus note.
