It got picked up off industry types thanks to Chandler Burr's book, The Perfect Scent, I'm pretty sure. He describes them using it. Others, too.

But yeah. Tough guy, "in the know".

Never notice it all. Juice has been accepted for the most part by everyone.

The full correct term is juicy juicy juice juice.

Or if you’re of a 90s persuasion Juice Juice Baby.

    That sounds tougher...yeah definitely tougher.

In all seriousness because we must all be so stiff and reserved to appear debonair, it is no more different to using the term perfume or parfum or fumes or fumée to describe the fragrance or the act of fragrancing oneself. (Except juicing which can of course be used by a certain niche of the gym-going and vegan communities for entirely distinct and different reasons.)

Personally don't like the term and never use it.

If they're talking about a cologne or EDT, calling it perfume would be incorrect, anyway. In that instance, "juice" would be the better choice. My go-to is usually 'fragrance'. If it's a long post, I'll switch it up a little. Fragrance, liquid, juice, etc. I don't want to keep using the same noun, over and over.

Being a guy myself, did in fact use the term juice in several posts, but did not notice using this particular term nor having any reasons to do so more than with any other term used to name, describe etc. fragrances (in fact, it might be quite likely to have unconsciously used the word/ juice near to an equal, "ideal" proportion to all the other fragrance names/designations)

Just makes me think of alcoholics.

I agree though that it's cute that guys try to sound tough when talking about their favourite perfumes. Yeah, bro, just came home from the gym (leg day with a former SAS dude), unpacked 5 kilos of parma ham and my new bottle of Afternoon of a Faun. Check out my unboxing video, guys!

There’s a lot to be said about language and the way it has been used to make people or things appear better or worse when refering to the same thing.

A man slaps juice or aftershave on his chops. A lady perfumes herself with fine french Par Far. (I think I spelled that proper)

A poor person drinks Scotch and becomes drunk, whereas a person of means enjoys a single malt or two.

A poor person with mental health problems is mentally ill. Great Uncle Jonty is however merely eccentric.

I sometimes say juice but only when I’m here or talking to my SO about OJ.

pretty much where i'm at. using the word "liquid" outside of a chemistry discussion seems asinine. i take myself seriously with a lot of things, proper perfume terminology isn't one of them.

This is pretty much my word spectrum. I have nothing against "juice" but probably use it the least frequently.

"Frag" is the one I think is too cute and bro-y.

Bro, everyone knows you need to boost your frag up before hitting the gym to rep your quads if you wanna go hard. Then you boost it up again before pounding that protein shake.

Makes me think of old Capri Sun commercials. Or Kool-Aid. Or one of them..."The juice is loose!" Maybe Sunny D?

I'm sure I've used it before. Not a lot, but some. If I'm talking about the color, I'll probably say 'liquid'. Gucci PH II for example, "The color of the liquid says aquatic, not warm spicy." or something like that. I've never really given it much thought regarding being associated with either sex. BN these days seems dominated with males so I guess I associate it with guys, but wouldn't think it's weird to see a female member use it.

"Frag" on the other hand I associate with guys for whatever reason. Not a term I favor personally.

I call it juice sometimes, as well as my whisky.

But Juice is the name of a perfume, so nah! Eau Juice came out recently and Juicy has been around a long time. Stop called it Juice(y), ladies!

Frag will forever be a gaming term and juice will forever be a street term so "scent" works for me.

Has anyone been to the Danish coffee and juice chain "Joe & the Juice"?

It's like Starbucks + Jamba Juice with club music, and the decor is something I'd describe as "world travelbro," with a weird mix of e.g. Delhi street scenes and Ibiza party scenes. Exhibit A: https://www.instagram.com/p/BATG6exPqbe/?hl=en

    They have some US locations.

They have completitions for styley juicemaking.

You get the idea. Note the lack of, ah, feminine energy.

"Juice" as slang for liquid reminds me of this place. Not a street term. Coffee and juice shop for aspiring travelbros.

Whenever I come across juice used in this way it definitely registers. I agree that it seems to somehow connect to a toughness pretense. I also agree that macho affectations applied to perfume analysis is pretty hilarious. (e.g. "Fahrenheit is such a masculine scent." "Um...you're still a man spraying perfume on your neck.")

On a slightly different note, the term frag somehow just doesn't agree with me. Nothing against anyone who uses the term.

Putting technical distinctions aside, I prefer the term perfume for any scented liquid (of any concentration) that humans apply to their skin for purposeful scenting purposes.

Same here.I think the term juice for colognes, perfumes etc. is relatively modern.I never used to hear fragrances called that and I think it just sounds stupid. Not a big fan of the word fragrances either, but at least it sounds ok.I still prefer calling them colognes and perfumes.

'Juice' is ok. Certainly much better than 'frag'.

The lengths that chaps will to to avoid using the dreaded word 'perfume', eh? Plus all that talk of 'performance', as if it were Harleys that were under discussion rather than just smelling nice.
