    Default Ensar Oud Tigerlust

New pure parfum coming in January:
    tigerlust bn.jpg
    This perfume named itself.

Typically, perfumers have a vision in mind, be it a feeling they want to evoke or a marketing theme they have to match. It didnít work that way this time.

It might just be what happens when frangipani oozes into orris root, or civet gets high on Sichuan pepper.

When crushed ambergris sticks to blackcurrant and castoreum goes for a swim in a lake of osmanthus, you donít really know what to expect.

These combinations are uncharted territory. These combinations, combined into one perfumeÖ

Pour obscene amounts of artisanal Chinese oud, Sri Lankan oud, and Maroke oud into this animalic coctail of contrasts and steep them in vintage Timor sandalwood, tobacco leaf and coffee flower.

You canít help but smell it. TIGERLUST. Call it primal, sensual ó sexual ó call it what you will. This must be what happens when Siberian musk comes into contact with gyrinops from the highest mountain peaks of Irian Jaya and they go for a stroll in the Italian countryside.

You donít want to lick it, or bite it, or ease into a bath of it. Not just that. Itís a fragrance you want to embrace, to own without the paranoia of ever running out crossing your mind as even possible; to make it a part of you every bit as much as the steaming presence of an untamed loverís skin. That IS what musk invites to, what the finest rose reinforces and Indian jasmine beautifies. TIGERLUST.

The top notes are discreetly citrusy, the heart notes shamelessly saucy, and the base all oud slooshing oud drunk on oud, restrained as best it can by Mysore from the mid-70s.
Rare, vintage, and niche off-site sales.
    Big list of niche splits.
For me a work of fiction exists only insofar as it affords me what I shall bluntly call aesthetic bliss, that is a sense of being somehow, somewhere, connected with other states of being where art (curiosity, tenderness, kindness, ecstasy) is the norm. - Vladimir Nabokov

Looks really interesting. But I was disappointed to see that there isn't an EDP option being offered this time.

Wow, would definitely get in on a split of this but it’s way too expensive for me to afford a bottle on my own. Sounds amazing though.

    Strifeknot is having a split.

    I'm having a 5ml.

I tire of perfumers choosing to use this and that from this and that land as the way to sell a scent. We should aspire to become a one risen humanity, and the realization that you were sold a lie; that any land creates something better on virtue of it being from that land alone is but that lie.

Umm...oud smells very different depending on where it is from. The same can be said for many ingredients in perfumery.
    Taif Rose vs Turkish.
Mysore Sandalwood vs Australian etc etc.

I will say this though, Ensar Oud overall is great at marketing and they do hype their products. Sometimes they're spot on (EO1) other times not so much (Private Blend).

I do understand what you are getting at, but what makes a perfume special to humanity, and not special to the ego, is the idea and the execution of said idea. This is shown time and time again when perfumers stuff expensive (at least they claim) ingredients in a bottle and the outcome is mediocre. Just as with all Ensar's creations I am sure it will smell like natural ingredients are used and it will possess a quality different than French perfumery, but will any of them live on as Jicky or Mitsouko, Eau Sauvage or hell even 4711 have? I for one very much doubt it.

My nose can’t tell the difference between the notes, the accords, or the nuances of the ingredients.

I’ve smelled supposedly high quality nepal deer musk and 100+ years oud attar, but I just prefer the normal version of these oils.

Don’t care about the brands too much.

As long as they smell nice to my nose, I’ll buy them.

    Self confessions:

I went crazy about perfumes since June 2019. In 6 months, I’ve hoarded half a liter of attars and perfumes. If I use 4 sprays per day, it’d take me 4.5 years to finish them. I need to stop.

Maybe after I’ve got my hands on Tigerlust. What an addiction.

You don’t think that’s a Eurocentric perspective? The tradition in which Ensar is working is significantly older than European perfumery. I can’t speak to specific formulations, but people were wearing oud attars centuries before Guerlain was born.

That argument ‘sounds good’ but unfortunately fallacious; you’re comparing apples to oranges. Mass produced modern fragrances backed by mass marketing machinery vs artisanal /niche in highly limited batches. There’s no way an Ensar Oud can become a Guerlain or a Dior, reach-wise. Neither is it a question of French vs Middle Eastern styles of perfumery.

I’m still considering getting in on the split. Any thoughts on the cocktail approach to mixing different ouds? To my nose these tend to smell muddled...

Post your views as soon as you get to try it, guys. I’m skipping this one. I’d love a sample but 5 ml is probably too much for something that I strongly expect wouldn’t be getting regular wears.

    Today was a good day.

From a quick spray, it smells very very nice, shares house DNA with EO1, although it is slightly sweeter.
I can't comment in detail just yet- I'm recovering from a flu. Despite that I know I will love this based on how much I love EO1.

That was the opening. It's changing already. If you're not in a hurry give me a couple of days when my nose is 100% I can give you a better indication.

Actually I'm assuming others will get their bottle today/tomorrow, hopefully they can contribute further.

EO1 Pure Parfum is masterful, but I've not smelled the EDP version to compare.

I am 1hr into my first wearing of TigerLust and its been a roller-coaster thus far.
I must admit when i first lifted the cap and smelt it from the atomizer - i was slightly disappointed - it smelt VERY similar to Iris Ghalia from the cap.
And then i sprayed it on skin and that is where the fun started. I agree with LambMelb - the opening 5-10mins is reminiscent of EO1, a burst of oud, civet and rose.. in fact my partner asked if i was wearing EO1... .. but then at approximately the 10 min mark it U-turns, and the EO1 "accord" recedes, and now I'm smelling one the most amazing frangipani notes Ive ever experienced. Its frangipani soaking in a buttery feel - which must be from the orris root. The frangipani is not that dissimilar to (dare i say) the frangapani note in plumeria de orris - from that other great house (the similarities between the two fragrances end there).

Its an interesting first 1hr. there is a constant shift back and forth between a leathery vibe (the castoreum or civet?) and the floral-buttery feel of the frangipani and orris... Just when i think the frangipani is gone, it rears its head again.

At about the 1hr-90 min mark there is a temporary shift again - this time the accord reminds me of Iris Ghalia (again) - its the blackcurrent and ambergris starting to emerge. The blackcurrent stage doesnt last too long, and then it seems to move to a spicey, peppery musk (ensar list sichuan pepper as an ingredient).. not tooo dissimilar to EO2...

Anyway im 2.5 hrs. Ensar posted a review in the comments section under TigerLust and the first comment was that this is like a "best of" of Ensar's work but amplified and enhanced..... and i think that is very accurate if you are familiar with his other creations. In the space of 2.5 hrs ive experienced aspects EO1, IG and EO2 - but certainly enhanced and more refined.

    Good summary above.

If anyone here is familiar with the X Men, this fragrance is Mystique. The shapeshifter of the fragrance universe. Complex...and it will take many wearings for me to fully understand.

I am in the middle of a full wearing today (despite it being pretty hot here lol). This fragrance is brilliant. If you're a fan of animalic, oud, floral fragrances it's a safe bet. It isn't pungent or offensive (to me by Basenotes standards).

Opens up like some kind of hybrid of EO1 + Iris Ghalia so Ambergris, Musk and some light fruity floral notes. As it progresses some iris, blackcurrant, more florals and some clean oud (by clean I mean no barnyard) becomes apparent.

That's about it for now. Let's see how it develops from here.

As a lover of Ensar and everything he creates I ask myself, why isn’t there more hype around the master of oud and natural perfumery? Is it the price? I wonder if he offered his Parfums under $300 if they’d be instant sell outs like with other perfumes to come out in the last year but then I remember that he’s sold out of everything including his $790 creations eve if it takes a year or two. EO1 has seen three iterations at this point. I wonder if Tigerlust will get the same treatment.
