Default Your Perfume Rotations in 2020

Welcome to our new Perfume Rotations thread for 2020.

Most rotations are monthly but all rotational approaches/ideas are very welcome here in this thread - seasonal, quarterly, fortnightly, weekly, half yearly, etc. Please feel free to list any 2020 Finish Focus perfume projects or any other type of perfume project that you might undertake during the year here at the start of the new thread so you can see how you did at the end of the year.

Here's a link to the 2019 thread for quick & easy reference.

Thank you, CuddleCat, for restarting this thread. It’s one of my favorites! I enjoy finding new ways to wear my fragrance wardrobe and find a little structure is more satisfying than random daily picks.

The perfumes currently on my dresser tray are:

    Habit Rouge (samples)
    Heritage
    Mitsouko
    Mon Guerlain
    Copper Skies
    L’Air du Desert Marocain

Maybe I’ll make some headway towards finishing LADDM. It’s about 2/3 gone. (I’ve been wearing it at bedtime but I don’t count that in my stats.)

Hey, cuddlecat, thanks for getting the gang back together! Good to see you, Trilby Lark and Bavard!

I agree with you, Trilby— a bit of structure is immensely satisfying.

I need to rework my January plan in order to accommodate my new gift/acquisition, but I’ll be back in shortly!
My only regrets in life are the people I haven't stood up for,
and the perfumes I've thrown away.

I think I'll work on finishing some of these in addition to the five I pull out every month. I'm excited to polish some off.

Hi Trilby Lark, Bavard & Kotori!

I've decided to take a page from Trilby's book & reduce some of my current perfume wardrobe. It's been slowly happening anyway thanks to me using the Kon mari method a few years ago. My perfumes were off limits when I did the de-cluttering but the more time that went by, where the rest of my house was full of "spark joy" items, I really noticed when I wore a perfume that wasn't joyful or a total love. There are also a couple of aldehyde heavy scents that I can only wear when my sinuses are 100% so I've taken them out of the perfume wardrobe as well.

There is one perfume in my wardrobe that sparks joy in the opening & middle phases but not in the drydown phase. So, I'm going to use this as a finish focus "bedtime" scent because I'll hopefully be asleep before it hits the drydown stage! The scent is La Petite Robe Noire Couture by Guerlain. I have two other full bottles that have only 10-15ml left, both are Jo Malone scents - Lime, Basil & Mandarin and Wood Sage & Sea Salt so they will be finish focus scents, too.

I'm very thankful for the rotation threads as I have learned so much about the perfumes I own since starting to rotate my scents. I started with monthly rotations but it has evolved into a mix of my having "four" all year round scents, a few seasonal (all three months) scents for each season & my monthly rotation scents.

I'll be back soon with my picks of January.

Welcome, gewoonBB! Glad you’re joining us, incense+heliotrope!

My 2020 rotations will be a bit fat. I gave most of my fragrances 5 or 6 rotation spots on an annual plan/sketch because I found some things are otherwise getting “saved.” So I’ll see how this works as far as giving me permission to bring out certain fragrances more often.

A couple of years ago, I began a goal to trim down. I had a wardrobe of 40 at the time, and I am now at 36, and I don’t think I’ll make very much headway on that goal this year, being that most of the bottles I might finish this time are backed up, and I have no interest in discontinuing use of those fragrances. I do have a few I wouldn’t replace, but they’re more full. So that means 2020 will be more of a stasis year, with 2021 being the likely pare down year again.

    Here is my January plan:

    January 2020

Finish Focus: Eau Parfumee Au The Blanc

    1. 31 Rue Cambon
    2. Coromandel
    3. Dioressence
    4. Dune
    5. Eau Parfumee au The Blanc
    6. Elixir des Merveilles
    7. Galop d’Hermes
    8. Gieffeffe
    9. Labdanum 18
    10. Mitsouko
    11. No. 19 Poudre
    12. No. 5 L’Eau
    13. Rush
    14. Sanrovia
    15. Shalimar Mexique
My only regrets in life are the people I haven't stood up for,
and the perfumes I've thrown away.

Going to do a mini perfume project starting tomorrow for the rest of January. If it goes well I may extend it into some other months of the year.

I want to try wearing some of my perfumes for three days at a time. I picked three days to start with as I tend to wear 3 scents per day during the summer months & I felt 5 days might be too much of a jump to start with. Due to the number of days left in the month (3 x 3, with only one extra free day), I'm thinking of leaving the evening/bedtime scent as a free "anything" choice option. I didn't pick any of "my all year round" scents or my summer "tried and true" scents as I felt that would be too easy to start with and not much of a challenge.

    So here is the plan:
    Wed - Fri 22nd - 24th Jan
La Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto EDP by Guerlain
Evening / bedtime scent is a free choice if needed.

Sat - Mon 25th - 27th Jan (this is a long weekend in Australia)
    Donna by Valentino
Evening / bedtime scent is a free choice if needed.

    Tues - Thurs 28th - 30th Jan
Mon Guerlain EDP Intense (if the weather forecast is too hot, I may have to change to another scent)
Evening / bedtime scent is a free choice if needed.

That leaves the 31st of January as a free day before February starts.

If I reapply the scent during the day, I will record it as a separate wearing.

Anyone is welcome to join me, if interested in giving the 3 day challenge / mini project a try!

No finish focus here but I do have some fragrance projects planned!

Right now I'm in a buy mode. I've bought 11 bottles for myself since the year started, plus I have about 14 more planned for the next month or so. I'm mostly testing different fragrances from samples, seeing if they are full bottle worthy, and buying. I bought 0 last year and only 2-3 the year before, so my wardrobe has needed a revamp for some time now.

Once I've done my rounds and bought everything I want to (and even a bit now on days where I'm going somewhere that I want to wear something I know I'll love rather than something I'm testing), I'm starting a Basenotes related project. My ratings for my wardrobe were very outdated and mostly made from when I had just entered my fragrance journey. I will pick a day where I wear every single fragrance in my wardrobe, rate it on overall rating, longevity, and sillage here.

Also a kind of silly project but as I'm about to get a fragrance starting with J and U, I might try to find one I love for the three letters of the alphabet I don't have yet: D, V, and Z, I believe.

Had a bit of a fault start with Valentino Donna on early Saturday (it was just the wrong weather for it) so I changed the 3 day scent to Wood Sage & Sea Salt by Jo Malone.

I have also changed Mon Guerlain EDP Intense to just the EDP version due to very hot weather for the next three days.

    Jaipur

For February I plan to rotate:-

    Lolita Lempicka

    Nohiba
    Mauboussin
    Visa
    Jaipur

    February Fragrances

    1. Christian Dior Fahrenheit
    2. Hermes Bel Ami
    3. Chanel Egoiste Concentree
    4. Balenciaga Ho Hang Club
    5. Chanel Antaeus

I've thought about maybe more than five, possibly seven. I could throw in 6. Antaeus Sport and 7. Moschino Pour Homme.

I need to sleep on it. The theme is love, longing, and sweet, woody fragrances.

I woke up thinking the seven bottles mentioned sounded perfect.

    February Rotation

    1. Angelique Noire
    2. Coromandel
    3. Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune
    4. Dune
    5. Elixir des Merveilles
    6. Flower by Kenzo
    7. Gieffeffe
    8. Hanae Mori
    9. Infusion d’Iris
    10. L de Lolita
    11. Labdanum 18
    12. Mitsouko
    13. Rush
    14. Sanrovia
    15. Traversee du Bosphore

It’s a collection of my cool weather favorites, plus a motif of red and pink and orange-red smells. Gieffeffe and Infusion d’Iris are there as palate cleansers, as needed. I’ll be focusing on Kenzo Flower for my highest wears in February. This bottle is starting to lose its top notes, and I find it to be romantic. Mr. Kotori gave me my first bottle from his trip to Spain when he’d known me only a month or two.

Orris & Sandalwood by Jo Malone
Raw Silk & Red Roses by 4160 Tuesdays
    Samsara EDT by Guerlain
    Stash by SJP
    Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse by HdP

I also want to try out a few of my other perfumes this month as it's been an unusual year so far weather-wise. While most of Australia has been very hot with bushfires, it has been usually mild here with only the occasional very warm or hot day thrown in.
