Curious to know how this smells.

Will it be a EauDe Cologne or a Fougere?
I have a Royal fern EDC from 60s I think and it smells nothing like Fougere.

I don’t recognize the mark offhand but I think you’re right that it’s the bottle manufacturer’s mark.

I believe the mark is pictured upside-down. If I’m not mistaken, it’s “O-I” for the Owens-Illinois Glass Company. The “6” would likely be a mold number for the bottle. It could indicate the manufacturing plant, but plant 6 closed in 1962, and I don’t think this logo was in use yet. Bottle collectors don’t seem to know when this logo was first employed, but I doubt it was before the 1970s.

I appreciate that. You got a lot further with it than I did.
It had occurred to me that the mark was upside down in the photo. When I check the bottle with a magnifying glass, I think, yes, that's a 6. Or wait. . . is it a 9? And then I think of Jimi.

What's maybe not so clear in the photo is that the vertical line in the center is perfectly straight. Flipped over, it looks to be a "C" and an "H". I wasn't able to find any marks for the Owens-Illinois Glass Company that look like that. (Oriented as it is in the photo, it looks like an "H" and a "D".)

Ah, well. Maybe I'll get to the bottom of it one day.
I found the same mark on a pre-'70s 118ml bottle of EDC. It says "Made in France" on the box.

The way that cap sits, I'm pretty sure there's a crimp seal under there.

I’ve asked O-I glass if anyone there can shed any light on this. It might not be them at all. According to one glass collector site, this is a recent/current Owens-Illinois stamp:

    09F5608D-565D-4589-96A8-C43D1A1DBE73.jpeg

    Looks similar to me.

Not dissimilar, I would say. It is the closest thing I've seen, for sure.

    Update:
One mystery may have been solved, which is the mark's proper orientation.
It turns out the EDC I bought last year has the same mark, and this time the associated number is clearly a 1.
I wouldn't bet my life on it, but this does suggest that the number appears below the mark, and that the photo directly above shows the mark right-side up.

Both the BN directory and Fragrantica treat Masculin 2 (1975) as the first in the line, but Parfumo and Perfume Intelligence cite this one from 1972, which Cleopatra's Boudoir lists as "Au Masculin." I haven't seen it before, but I haven't been at this as long as most BNers.

I think she plans to spend more time reading before she delves into writing, but anything could happen. At this point, I don't even know what name she's using!

Does she own a collection as well? Any preference to notes, houses, and styles?

She went through the process of finding fragrances many years before I did, and she's more intent on having a small selection of quality signatures than a large wardrobe. Thus, she has a much smaller collection, growing a bit recently because I've bought her a few things that interested her (and/or me). Her vintage collection includes Opium, Chanel No. 5 and No. 19, Hermès Calèche and Rouge, a suite of Lanvins (of which her favorite is Scandal), Guerlain Mitsouko and l'Heure Bleue, Dana Emir, and Givenchy l'Interdit. She also wears Clive Christian C, which I suppose is "vintage," as it's recently been reformulated. She has a few more, but it's a long way from triple digits.

This whole self-isolation thing has us playing with fragrances more, so that's a bit of a silver lining.

The only other picture the seller had was this one.. I check “raiders of the lost scent“ and right now without the box in front of me, it could be anywhere from 1988-2001. That’s a pretty big window! Haha0861DA32-4688-41C6-AC36-C4D7A2E6B6A1.jpg
