It's true that the dark grey cap is less sparkling than the copper top. And like you said, copper top has stronger spices. I prefer the more subtle and balanced spices here.

After getting that lifetime stash of the 70's stuff, I pretty much stopped wearing the copper cap. I have been thinking about what makes the difference in the base. Natural civet is an obvious guess, but in addition to that, it has such smooth, deep and velvety sandalwood accord, something the copper top doesn’t quite have. It's one of those bases which makes you go "aaaaaahh" when inhaling. Yeah, that's the most precise thing I can say about this. I'll stop here.

I think this is what distinguishes new releases from vtg - from the cheapest to the most expensive, excluding good quality pure oud oils and few artisanal houses (Slumberhouse, Areej, Fazzolari etc), none are standing up to give that drydown making u feel "aaaaahhhhh".

Wow, Earlyn! What a fabulous group. I was late coming to the Miss D. EDC too, and it turned me around from thinking of it as the stepchild of the vintage Diors.

Earlyn - Those look great. I have some Miss Dior edc that hasn't had as much wearing time. The parfum, edt, and edc still smell fairly similar to me at this point.

Right - I kind of thought that too but after reading the chatter on the Vintage Dior thread I reconsidered. Makes me want to explore some EDCs for the others and maybe layer the concentrations which I think is what ladies used to do.

Thanks epapsiou and Bavard! I’m working my way up to the parfums which get lots of love here. I enjoy how consistently good all these vintage Dior concentrations seem to be.

I just received these beauties today. I'm glad to finally have the "Made in Holland" Dunhill Edition. I do own the "Made in the Netherlands" formulation and it's great.

    This Caron is amazing!

I had the current (2009) version but did not like it at all. Something did not work for me. A scrubber. Then got the vintage one and that was something I could wear.
Not my fav by any means but not a scrubber.

That's because Creed is willing to foot the bill for low-atranol oakmoss to preserve the base accord.

Very funny this came up, I was just pondering the differences between modern and vintage BdP today. I have both an early 90's bottle, and a recent release. The dry down smells very similar, I'm not sure I could tell the difference. The only place I really notice a difference is in the opening, where the vintage has a much much stronger lavender note (which I love) and the modern is dominated more by bergamot making it less smooth.

Should't the base notes by more different though? I'm told that the vintage stuff used real Mysore sandalwood, whereas the current stuff uses whatever aromachem approximates sandalwood nowadays.
