Default Vintage Fragrances I bought today - 2020

    Edit:
    Old thread covering 2016-2019: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/428...I-bought-today

The Vintage Fragrance I bought today is becoming way too big - 3.5 years worth of vintage perfume porn.

This is the new thread for 2020 and probably will be an yearly thing.

I will start the thread with one of the forum favourite - Gianfranco Ferre Uomo.
My first bottle was a BNIB splash (1st vintage version).
Bavard loved the decant I sent and went on to but FB. Unfortunately, he was not happy with it. It was the 1st vintage version but somehow it was not the same as mine. I then bought a few more bottles and versions and finally bought another vintage splash and what I found is that vintage splash is not same as vintage spray (or there was a reformulation in first vintage version). That is what Bavard must have noticed when he bought a bottle.

It was supposed to be a Christmas gift but came a bit late. So it is going to be a new year's gift

    Hurrah, virgin thread!

I just have a mini of the GF (from LiveJazz, I think), and it's indeed pretty damn tasty stuff. But not enough to go FB on it. If I do that with any Ferre fragrance, it'll probably be the rosey GFF one.

Glad you liked it! What I like about GF for Man is its straight-ahead-ness, if that makes sense. I find it to be a pretty definitive reference 80's masculine cyphre. No frills or extras there. It's a classically styled citric, chewy, mossy thing that's just stout, satisfying and perfectly composed.

    Yay new thread! Thanks paps

I'll try to catch up with some more of my 2019 pick ups. Although trying to keep some of them hush hush because I'd still like to get round 3 of a Blind Sample Pass going.

^^^ I picked up a mini of GFF Uomo maybe 6 months ago. Dirt cheap blind buy so I figured why not. Thought it was decent but kind of an average/meh green mossy rose number for me. Nice enough and pretty smooth but no where near the level of appreciation I have for GF for Men. Didn't really stand out against the many other mossy rose scents I've tried, despite a nice opening. Prices are decent though.

Very much agree, LJ. GF for Men is such an effortless wear and nearly faultless as far as my fault detector is tuned.

Try GFF Donna (femme version) some time. It's better than the men's.

I have a full bottle of this. I haven't given it a full wearing yet. I'm still trying to "like" rose fragrances .

I picked these up. Vintage?? Or just earlier formulations.

I'm not sure about the Antaeus. Notice there is no "PARIS" on the front of the bottle.

Notice the short ingredient list on the Egoiste.

    Comments welcomed.

The EDTS are listed below the Chanel which means at the earliest it would be late 90s. The short list of ingredients on the Egoiste box would confirm a bottle from 1998-2004, there should be a batch code on the box. The Antaeus may have been produced in the US region instead of Paris.

    Congrats

Got through the post this week, vintage Quorum set and Agua Brava.

Funnily enough I have pretty much the opposite thoughts on these!

Not a fan of the Quorums, they are just too harsh on the wrong notes versus the current formulation which I adore. I'll be parting with these pretty fast.

The vintage AB though us incredible and I much prefer it over the current. The vintage is so incredibly well rounded, my gosh, I'm in love.

For my wife, a gorgeous BNIB Opium (it was actually still wrapped in cellophane).
It's one of her favourites, very happy to have found this.

My old dutch was an Opium lover, I bought her a few bottles for special occasions so the pics brought back very pleasant mental and olfactory memories, thanks for that.

Nostalgia kicked in and curiosity had me trawling, the classic is commanding premium money I see..

I Felt as we were on the YSL Class trail these were worthy of a mention as they popped up in my search... YSL...Opyium... Sandals...

YSL always a classy house, I'm sure you will agree simply stunning @ almost £1k.. Glad they don't do my size, I was sorely tempted .

This is a blind buy as I never smelled Aguirre before. I only knew that François Demachy is the perfumer who created it in 1991.It's described as an oriental, spicy, woody scent. First spray on my wrist and I discover a very nice scent. Will need a full wearing to better appreciate it ...

What an intriguing find. I presume it was not named after the Werner Herzog film. Who would ever want to experience those terrifying smells?

    Maybe named for a place?

Polo 4oz with box. Haven't seen bottom of bottle yet, but that can be part of the excitement. 'Spray Cologne' version.
