Paco Rabanne Pour Homme ('73). Bottle is 4th edition, box is 5th. Smells pretty damn good!

A rarity for me today: Dioressence Eau Parfumee (1969? 1979?) "Le Parfum Barbare"

I'm not sure which version I'm wearing, but maybe RoRo will wander in here and clarify it for me. Based on what Perfume Shrine says, I'm inclined to think it's the 1979 Max Gavarry version, since it smells to me more like a spicy oriental, and the 1969 Guy Robert version is described as an ambery animalic. (Worth reading the whole entry just for Luca Turin's story of Guy Robert and the million-dollar hunk of ambergris and cheap bar of soap.)

Hi Cook.bot! Hope it’s okay if I wander in too...

I do not believe that the Dioressence was significantly reformulated between 1979 and 1989. There does not seem to be more ambergris or animalic base in the earlier Eau Parfumee (your bottle) than in the later versions. We batted this topic around in our old vintage Dior thread here...

Always happy to have you wander in! Dammit, it's so annoying that the photos in that thread have disappeared. RoRo mentions there his "ribbed bottle", but I know he also has the opaque blue bottle, so I'm more uncertain than ever about which I'm smelling.

If you have the oil formulation, that should be the original ambergris one, right? I'm pretty sure that's not what I have on today, even allowing for the fact that I have little to no experience with authentic ambergris.

Edit: I just realized that it's probably not clear from my post that I don't have the bottle in hand. What I have is a decant from RoRo, and I don't know which bottle (or age) it's from.
