Default Layton is such a compliment getter

I sprayed 3 sprays on my neck and 1 on my chest 4 hours ago and a waitress as a restaurant just told me I smell really good as she walked by to give me the check

That's nice, but if you already knew it was good, then the compliment shouldn't matter. I mean, unless you were wearing it and were wondering if it was bad.

Hope you left her a big tip.

Id be more impressed if it was someone elses waitress.

I'd be even more impressed if it was Angelina Jolie or the pope.

Jokes aside - Layton is a real compliment getter.
I probably works better in these regards with women than Aventus.

I just hope that wasn't just a nice way to tell you that you'd probably oversprayed because in certain restaurants it's not always appropriate to wear strong fragrances.

I dont find compliments on anything from waitresses or strippers helpful. Though, they can make a man blush.

    And how!

But yeah, for strippers the bar gets set kind of low.

“Thank you, good sir, for not reeking of three day old pit stank and stale cigarettes and having the common decency to chew a damn breath mint.”

“Well, I am the perfect gentleman.... Now, what extras do you offer and how much?”

Was this in the US? Would explain a lot. We donít pay tips here where I am.

Personally I am not a big fan. That coffee against the woody aromachems is a bit stomach churning.

Costume National recently released a version of Layton.

What's the harm in a compliment on how good you smell? Even is she was fishing for a better tip. Enter the wonderful world of female bartenders and the power of suggestion. I'm not dissing it. I do it all the time, but it works better with the female bartenders. It helps build regulars.

No. If you smelled bad, she's not going to give the compliment. If you're not wearing anything, she's not going to give the complement. You can be sincere and also have a little bit of self interest.

There's no harm. It's just meaningless when anybody else can wear the same thing. She wasn't complimenting him on anything unique to him personally.

Congratulations on the compliment. It’s a nice feeling to be noticed and acknowledged for wearing something nice.
Note to self: Choose being kind over being right, and youíll be right every time.

I think an acknowledgement from someone else about your scent is a good thing. You like it, so you wore it. Anyone else acknowledging that is an extension of your use of it.

So the waitress prefers smelly people in her restaurant and was being dishonest about telling someone who smelled good.

Our director in the office wears Layton pretty much everyday, so I don't ever wear mine as a daily driver anymore. She rotates between that and African Leather, but has been hitting Layton 95% of the time these days.

If someone tells me that the perfume I'm wearing smells good, that's nice, but DUH. I know it smells good. That's why I'm wearing it.

So that compliment doesn't mean much.

Personality type compliments usually require a deeper connection and not a fleeting one. Someone complimenting you on your scent can still be unique to you since skin chemistries are different. Also, not everybody with the same scent may not necessarily get complimented. It's also a combination of your demeanor, looks, approachability, etc. that might garner a compliment. In that sense, it may not necessarily be your true personality (again, can't know that till you've spent more time) but the promise that your entire package (don't go there! ) presents to her. Well, that or the promise of a big tip.

Anyway, I've noticed how compliments have become almost a bad word around here. Yes, you should like your fragrance for yourself, but part of that enjoyment CAN be to get noticed positively. I'm not gonna lie that that's how I started out as well and still do appreciate getting compliments for merely how I smell. Hey, I know my personality and I'm confident about my personality as well. I'm not ever worried about that and couldn't care less if someone didn't notice my great personality from a fleeting glance.

Sure it does. It means you have good taste. It means you and the complimenter have the same taste. It means you're approachable enough to be given a compliment. Do you know how many people cannot bring up the courage to compliment a total stranger? Takes quite a bit for some, maybe even most. For them to strike a conversation to compliment you on something personal to you is HUGE. .

    What?

It's more likely she was being deceitful or insincere to gain a couple of bucks.

Life's too short to pee on compliments. And another thing...give them generously. Nothing's more boorish than someone who never praises anything, or never has anything positive to say.

I know my taste is good. It's mine. And I like it. Does anybody think they have bad taste?

And if it takes a lot for someone to give a compliment and they manage to give one, the fact that they manage to give one speaks more highly of them than it does of me. All I did was wear something that anybody can get at a store.

Wearing a nice perfume does not mean much nor does it take much effort. Let's not pretend it's more than what it is.
