Default The Dior Homme Line...Should We Panic Yet?

Although I’m sure the changes to the Dior Homme line has been discussed elsewhere in the forums with the almost cult-like following it has in the frag comm, I’m going to go ahead and post anyways as I couldn’t find a specific thread discussing this topic. I’ve heard rumours that DH and DHI are not just being added to with the completely different DH 2020 and DHI 2020 reformulations (in the near future) but actually being discontinued altogether in NA. If this isn’t happening immediately then I would expect their inevitable discontinuation at some point as it doesn’t make sense from a business perspective to offer two versions of the same fragrance. It also looks like Dior Homme Eau is on its way out as well. Can anyone definitively confirm this and would you recommend stocking up on back-up bottles while we still can? If so, it’s truly a sad day for fragrance lovers, myself included, as I‘m personally obsessed with both DHI and DH (and DHE to a lesser degree).

It's being discussed on at least two threads. Maybe three?

DHI has not even been marketed in the US for a while now, so there is nothing to discontinue about it in the US.

People are going to panic regardless and by the tone of your messsge, you've already done some preliminary panic. Yes, 2005 and 2011 iterations of Dior Homme will become $300-$500 unicorns available only from eBay scalpers unless you have a reliable way to order Dior Homme Original from France, and sellers will import it at an upcharge like they do Chanel Pour Monsieur EdT and the Europe-exclusive older Diors (Jules and Higher).

So if you have the free cash, back it up now and find some things to wear alternatively (in case it was your signature and you wore it daily), so you don't find yourself without it worst case. Valentino Uomo is very close and also an Olivier Polge creation featuring iris ionones, just with hazelnut mixed in with the cacao and no leather note. Prada L'Homme or Infusion d'Iris Cedré may also help pad you out if you love iris, and Shalimar in EdC format is pretty guy-friendly too.

    Best of luck!

No, there is plenty of stock to be bought so if your in panic mode buy more! If it happens thats life but there is plenty of old stock around, can’t change business decisions but if you like something no one can stop you from preparing for a possible end to it. Only Dior knows what they are doing and when they either announce it or bring the change we will know, but honestly don’t sweat it just make a reserve in case.

I don't see any reason to panic, as long as Dior and LVMH are making a profit from the Dior Homme line, then they will not change anything. I don't see why they would just simply discontinue one of their bestsellers.

There were at least two or three threads, maybe the have been deleted and merged into this one:

The best formulations of any of Dior Homme and its flankers would be the original. All of them were reformulated nearly 10 years.

I think that an EDP / Intense will be added to the 2020 version down the road, Dior will want to follow the trend current in men’s fragrances, along with there success with the Savage edp.

At the moment, iris Dior Homme and Dior Homme Intense are all over for good prices including those massive 150-ml sprays. For someone who loves the fragrance, I would not panic, I would simply stock up.

I'm a massive fan and I'm comfortable with my stock:

    Dior Homme - 200 ml
Dior Homme Intense - 75 ml

If anything, I might add Dior Homme Parfum.

I have barely touched Dior Homme Intense in two years, so the need to panic seems distant.

I do have original versions - I'm not convinced they're better than the reformulations. I almost never use the original versions. They're dust collectors.

Since your new, you don't really get the context (and reality) of the joke. These threads happen a lot. Not your fault, cause like I said, you probably had no idea. It's a major pet peeve among several, if not most, people here.

When you see the older version of Dior Homme reach the price of $200.00+, then it's time to panic.

Surprisingly the original formulation of Dior Homme can still be found at affordable prices on occasion.

Don't understand these hysterical sounds on Dior Homme: just buy L'Homme de Coeur (2002) by Divine and you'll have the better iris scent!

I am really nervous. I am getting panic attacks at night when i think of dior homme . People don't panic doomsday, but are scared of dior reformulation. What a tragedy of life

At least up to this point, did never have so far unpleasant experiences with the DH flankers recently (in fact almost so recent, would say presently tested) while being unfamiliar with any negative or any changes whatsoever of the regular Dior Homme EDT-having not liked nor currently liking this fragrance that much, did never bother to (re) test this frequently and regularly.

However, most if not all its flankers including but not limited to Intense, Parfum, Cologne, Sport etc. seem, not just in their vintage but also their current versions, largely if not even entirely unaffected by any reformulations, even better so, neither as performance nor as actual smell and its individual notes/components.

Yeah, I take your point! I was upset back when I heard "Dior Homme Sport" was being changed again, little did I know that soon they would be basically replacing the original "Dior Homme" itself! I just can't make any sense of it.. The Dior Homme line is popular & respected among the fragrance community.. Just a few years ago there was a big iris trend going on in men's fragrances sparked by the Dior Homme line.. Remember "Prada L'Homme, Valentino Uomo" etc? The Dior Homme line in my opinion was so well done that it should never have been touched! I am glad that at the moment the original Dior Homme will still continue to be produced for the time being but I just wish Dior never went this route!

I've got enough of either (old batches) to be happy but if I was a huge fan and wore these regularly I'd probably look into stocking up before it's too late.

    Exactly!
    And that's what I've done.
But I don't want to push others to do the same.

Everyone who has seen what Dior has done over the past few years could make up his own opinion and think about, if there is a chance that the beloved fragrances just disappear or are going to be reformulated.

I wouldn't bother stockpiling unless it was my signature fragrance or nostalgic to me, there is so much choice out there, I don't see the point.

+1 My exact sentiments. It’s quite funny to see people rushing in to buy up bottles upon hearing rumours of discontinuation or reformulation.

It’s tragic to think that heroic man’s great destiny is to become economic man, that men will be reduced to craven creatures who crawl across the globe competing for money, who spend their nights dreaming up new ways to swindle each other.

No need to panic, but if you’re a big fan of the iris-containing formula and have the extra cash it makes sense to grab a 50ml or 100ml now, while they’re still widely available for a cheap price. At the same time, I I don’t see them disappearing from the usual haunts for at least another year or two, and until then their price should remain about the same.

I wonder how long this phase will last before it kicks in to 'rarity' mode. If I were to guess, I'd say we've got a couple years before they start to disappear?
