    Yeah, I don't know..on second thought...

I think I do use the term. I guess it describes the group of people who are interested in fragrances, beyond just owning a few to smell good. And there are lots of segments within.

I have always found the term somewhat cheesy though. I cringed the first few times I heard it.

Maybe a bit bland and literal, but certainly not silly, to me. We are an online community of fragrance hobbyists. "Fragrance Community" is on the nose.

Only when it's shortened to "FragComm" do my silly Youtuber alarm bells start to chime.

    What are some alternatives?

I'll cast a vote for "Olfactorists".

Fragrance Community? I'd say it's slightly less cringy than panty dropper. Perhaps a bit more cringy than "niche quality".

No issue whatsoever for me. What alternatives do you propose?

i use it a lot. I guess I’ll also use terms like fragrance enthusiasts, or for BN in particular Basenoters.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.

If we're going the nerd route maybe "hobbyists" sounds more appropriate. Community sounds like some kind of support group or something. I don't really use the term "fragrance community."

I think beefs and rivalries and YouTube exposals in the so-called "fragrance community" is kind of dumb. So actually, I don't like all this fragcom stuff.

I do use Fragrance Enthusiasts often.

I have no problem with the term “fragrance community”. I don’t care for the term “hobby” but I do like the term “aficionado”, although it’s meaning might be lost on some people.

I can think of worse alternatives that could theoretically spew out of "fragchan" and "the noir web"!

If having one vague interest in common makes us a community, then I have no desire to be apart of a community. If all that connects us is consumerism, and to a much lesser degree a form of art, then what good is it at all?

    What constitutes the community?
    Does anyone have a definition?

    Slightly different note:
The term fans can be tacked on to many nouns: e.g. football fans, poker fans, Game of Thrones fans, etc.
For some reason, fragrance fans sounds awkward to my ear.
Aficionado, no offense, has a pretentious ring to my ear: likewise with fragrance fancier (no one seems to say that much anyway).

    Apart or a part?

I usually use it to refer to those who discuss it with other enthusiasts online, whether it be on Basenotes, Facebook, or elsewhere. It’s not just having a common hobby or interest, or shared consumer habits, it’s those who have reached out to others online - it’s the connections and communications that marks the community.

I prefer fragrance aficionados or enthusiasts. These terms acknowledge each person is an individual who contributes to the discussion.
