Default Do samples feel weaker on you than the actual bottles?

When I first got into fragrances, I'd collect and use a lot of samples but quickly stopped because of frustration that the smaller atomizer meant for a weaker experience on my skin. It seemed as if fragrances that had better longevity and projection when I tested them in store or had bottles of didn't last as long in sample form and overall were more of skin scents than anything else.

I'm trying to buy a few new bottles over the next few months so picked up some samples of fragrances I was eyeing as potentials because it's been a while since I actually used any samples that are given to me. Agar Ebene, Myrrhe Eglantine, Straight to Heaven, etc.... I tried Agar Ebene today and noticed it smells quite faint, more so than I remember at the store.

Does anyone else have this issue? If I would normally put on five sprays of a fragrance, should I put on more when it is from a sample?

Sample sprays are usually smaller than sprays from regular-sized bottles, so I usually apply a bit more sprays from a sample.

To answer the thread question personally - no.

yes they do. I think it's due to the reason ultravisitor gave -- so I use more than I think is enough.
FYI: I spray all fragrances on clothing, never on skin.

theres been a few occasions when the sample has been stronger than the bottle.

    Same here.

l think if you're using a dab sample the fragrance can come across as weaker, because it's difficult to get as much on your skin as you would when spraying. For this reason l much prefer spray sample vials.

Yes, but expectedly so due to the limitations in application method / applicable amount imposed by the smaller dab sampler vials or atomisers.

Same thing here! I did a few purchases based on a sampling just to find out that full bottles weren't as lasting as samples

I've always wondered this as well, but just figured it's because the sprayer is very small. You can't equate one spray from a sample as the same as a regular bottle.

No, but as mentioned, the sprayer on samples puts out less of the actual juice than a full bottle (in most cases at least), so one should take that into account.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.

Oftentimes samples are in bad sealed atomizers (especially many plastic ones), they let air in and the fragrance evaporates a bit.
Top notes disappear and the base gets stronger.
And some of those typical plastic atomizers which were sold everywhere pump out a lot (!) of juice, even the 2 ml ones. Don't let you be fooled by the tiny size.
So I think, the fragrance out of samples could be stronger than freshly sprayed ones out of the original bottles.

And I personally have no doubt about it, that some brands are more sloppy with the production on some batches of their fragrances than on those where they also take the samples from. Not only in terms of performance but also smellwise.

That's been my experience also. I fall in love with the sample only to be disappointed when I receive an ordered bottle.
Has happened many times like that for me.

I use a lot of the samples with just the stopper (and usually a small applicator inside). I also have a few with the spray pump. I think this really depends on the perfume itself. Some of the samples a little bit applied is more than enough. Other times I have to really apply more - but I think this is due to nose blindness for a few perfume ingredients more than anything else.

I agree with this. I feel that samples come off way stronger than regular bottles. BTW, I wore X for Men by Clive Christian as well today. Good stuff!

Glad to hear from another X fan. It is in my top 3. I love all of the variations of the scent (there have been several) from the bottles i've owned!

Quite the opposite. May just be the amount/style of application.

Overall, my experience would tell me "no" but I've also occassionaly felt like sometimes the sample or the bottle was stronger, maybe just batch or maceration issues.

X is amazing! Although I have the women's version and not the men's, it is what first got me into high end fragrance collecting so will always hold a special place in my heart.
