Default What About Pop by The House of Oud

    764027.jpg

Just a short story. I blind bought a 7ml bottle from Luckyscent. Just a large sample really. When I opened the package I could immediately smell this, and I loved it.
Next day I went to work in a grocery store. I wasn't in the store 5 minutes and a 30 something female says someone really smells good. I knew it was me and told her what I was wearing. She googled it and bought a 7ml bottle right then and there.

Today I wore again and worked in a different store, and about 2 hours into my shift, the female Frito Lay vendor came over to chat with me, and got fairly close to me to whisper something about somebody - then she said what are you wearing you smell really good.

So I've worn it twice in two different places and got compliments both times. We all know we can go a long time between compliments. If you don't mind getting compliments and smelling good - What About Pop will deliver the goods. I just bought another 7ml bottle, and considering the big bottle and adding to my regular rotation.

If you like any of these, this will be a hit for you.

I can appreciate compliments, but I don’t think I want to smell like popcorn. Is this the dominant note you smell?

When I saw this a week or so ago...I thought who in god's name would want to smell like popcorn and why would anyone come up with a fragrance like this. I guess the same could be said about civet, castoreum, oud, birch tar etc...but I enjoy those things so I guess I just thought popcorn was very odd!

For the first hour it smells like salty caramel popcorn - not movie popcorn or just popped popcorn by itself.
Benzoin, vanilla and hawthorn (a slightly sweet flower) take over for me.

I just really feel at home wearing this one.

I myself got a sample of this from luckyscent about 2 weeks ago.

It's not too literal or one-note. It's quite decent and wears on the skin as a finished fragrance.

However, I didn't think the quality of the notes were quite $220 worth. They're decent, though. I just think the house of Hilde Soliani does this sort of thing with greater realism in Buonissimo.

Some fragrances just sound too niche for me at times, but I'm very glad you took the gamble and it paid off!

Just bought a full bottle. Went thru my 7ml. I'm going to try an experiment and wear What About Pop for the next 30 days. I want to see what it feels lie when a scent becomes part of your personality, and people begin to associate, and expect you to smell a certain way. When I was 14 I would have my mother buy buy a bottle, use it up, then either buy another bottle of the same or try something different. Never had two fragrances at the same time. The scents became part of you as in a signature scent. I want to feel what that's like again with What About Pop being the star. I haven't enjoyed a fragrance this much since Puredistance M came out 10 years ago now.

For me most Hilde Soliani scents are two sweet and adolescent in composition - especially Buonissimo.
What About Pop is light years ahead of Hilde Soliani in maturity and composition for my tastes.

I don't like the price either, but after living with it for 10 days now, I find I don't care about the price anymore. Just want more.

I have a sample of it laying around somewhere. I initially got it for my GF.

On me sweet scents wear very sweet and sticky, so i tend to avoid them. I will give it a shot tho

Interesting...in Chicago caramel corn from Garrett's is cooked to order at some locations or at least it used to be. I know the smell you're referring to.

My son lived in Chicago, and when I visited I would always buy the Garrett's popcorn freshly made. I still buy it now at my local grocery store. Have 2 bags in my house right now.

The smell when they cook the Chicago Mix is absolutely intoxicating haha. It smells like warm caramel pouring over butter.

I sampled this when I was in Tokyo. The lady did 1 or 2 spritz on my wrist and I can smell it for the next 2 days. I get a caramel popcorn at the top, its sweet...but I don’t find it cloying...maybe bcz Its freezing in Tokyo. Performance and sillage is really good considering it was like -1 degree Celsius and I can still smell it lol. I forgot about the dry down already but it doesn’t stay that foody, I’d say it’s actually quite wearable, but I’ve always wanted a popcorn/ caramel scent for Disneyland lol. I would have gotten it but it’s way too expensive...I ended up getting zoologists squid.
Anyone could recommend sth that comes close to what about pop but with a more friendly price tag...I’d totally blind buy it

I posted a brief review of What About Pop next door. It's basically another ambergris synth (BR540/Cloud profile) but engulfed in a thick smoked pop corn jelly belly. The pop corn note in contrast with the sweet ambergris is genius. It's a front runner to me. It has some nuances of ebony and some delicate florals that come and go but it's all creamy ambergris and pop corn.

    Solid.

Well then @thebeck, how did your 30 day-experiment consecutively wearing What About Pop go?
It went well. Continued to get compliments. I'm still enjoying it very much. I decant from the big bottle into the 7ml which I keep in the glove compartment of my car. I think this is more a big girls scent than little girls.

Wore this to the gym today. As I was leaving going down stairs a woman unknown to me was coming up the stairs. As we approached each other she commented on what a nice shirt I had on. The she took three more steps and said "and you smell good too"

Not one person has said I smell like popcorn with butter.
They have only said I smell good. When I ask them what I smell like, the answer has been unanimous " I don't know, you just smell good."

The only other one that I've received as many good comments from is Puredistance M
