He is not alt-right in any capacity. He has even gone on record numerous times saying that people who call him right wing or alt-right, don't know what the fuck they are talking about.

    From Wikipedia,
"Rogan has an interest in sensory deprivation and using an isolation tank. He has stated that his personal experiences with meditation in isolation tanks has helped him explore the nature of consciousness as well as improve his performance in various physical and mental activities and overall well-being"

Seems consistent with not liking perfume.
    Cheers,

+1. I've heard the name before though.

Wikipedia states that he's a libertarian, supports pot and other drug use, gay marriage, universal healthcare and income and so on, so sounds quite liberal. He also hunts (meh) and there seems to be an eat what you kill movement, which means I should either eat foxes, squirrels or deer that I kill, illegally I'd assume, in a park, or maybe I could drive out to Kent and kill some sheep. Or maybe the queen's swans? Not sure about that. I guess I can agree with that we eat too much mass produced meat but personally I don't buy a lot of it. He also uses an isolation tank for meditation, which would be fun to try.

Anyhow, I prefer perfume to smoking weed. Comments from others don't bother me, not even if it's the girlfriend who mercilessly puts down one of my fragrances. They're all wrong and I'm right, obviously.

Just watched the clip. "Don't f*** any girl that just f**** you because you wear cologne". Surely they're just talking nonsense. It certainly sounds like pure nonsense. Who are these people? Think that will be my first and last Rogan clip.

Aside from people just not being into perfume, I think with people like Joe Rogan its surrounding their idea of masculinity. A fair few conservatives would view perfume as femme and wearing it would be going against their concept of what it means to be a man, or the "cologne guy" trope would suggest desperation in their eyes. It's unfortunate that enjoying perfume can be impacted by outdated values or insular people that don't take cultures or the wider world for that matter into account. Hopefully the guy doesn't have google alerts set for his name, we don't want Basenotes being labelled as an "SJW forum that panders to ideologies that encroach on conservative values!"

Didnt mean to get political, but perfume itself has been extremely political actor before, especially in the face of facistic influences. Also FWIW about the whole "alt right" thing, there's a thing called dog whistling. Rogan, Crowder, et al do it fairly often while under the guise of Paleoconservatism.

If I had to estimate it, the time I spend wearing fragrances solely by myself, with no chance of anyone else smelling what I have on, is probably at least 80% of the time I'm wearing fragrance. I look forward to choosing a scent of the day to wear purely for my own enjoyment and amusement. Anything that happens - positively or negatively - as a consequence of that choice is just superfluous. As the pieces of art that they are, fragrances hold intrinsic value for me. That value is neither increased or diminished by other people's opinions, because I don't wear fragrances for other people. Like many others here, I often have a scent of the night as well, that I wear to bed after a shower, purely for my own enjoyment.
    Well said.

It seems like there are a few people have laughably bought into the idea that Rogan is alt-right or right wing, because he likes to have guests on the show that have opposing views from him, so he's viewed as endorsing these people for some moronic reason.

Kinda annoyed this thread has been dominated by Joe Rogan talk.

    Anyways, back to the question...

Yes, it's a bit annoying. I was watching the Netflix documentary Stink! and they do an on-the-street segment where they go around asking college-aged girls what they think about guys who wear cologne (kind of a loaded way of asking it to be honest) and a girl says something essentially to the effect of "I just think a guy who wears cologne is just trying too hard".

What about guys who wear cologne because they - GASP! - enjoy fragrances? Maybe the guy's wearing cologne but it's light enough that you don't even smell it unless you're right on his skin? Is he still "trying too hard" then? Should I think every female who wears makeup is just "trying too hard"? Ugh.

It can regrettably be a British trait to sneer and mock, usually when the issue is one that is not understood, and often from a perceived position of superiority, and I have had it many times at work regarding fragrance. People seem to have a hard time accepting a man having an interest and knowledge in fragrance, even within environments where fragrance is embraced by both men and women, as at my workplace. Equally though, there are a few people at my workplace that are not like that at all, have no problem with it and think it’s great that I have an interest in it.

Many are not, though. One colleague was recently very excited at the prospect of me being able to procure some Samsara for her much cheaper than on the high street but then, along with several other colleagues, proceeded to scoff and laugh out loud when I commented (in agreement with her praise of it) that it is indeed “A classic female sandalwood fragrance”. There’s gratitude for you. “Well, you like it for a reason”, I replied. “And that’s because of what’s in it - you know, what gives it the smell you so like”, I responded.

As with many people I encounter, both men and women, their position is that a fragrance may just smell nice and there’s no need to think or know why and a man is just wasting his time if he does. I sometimes wonder if the indifference to fragrance displayed by some women, who nevertheless enjoy wearing it, is a defence mechanism because they feel threatened that a man knows more than they do about something that is still culturally seen as predominately female territory. Or maybe they just find it unattractive for a man to have such an interest! Who knows?

I wonder though if men in general think women like cologne much more than they actually do - for those men that do try to pick the "perfect" cologne when they go on dates, etc.

Exactly. Most men I know that wear it wear it for themselves. They often don’t like to talk about why they like it though; I invariably encounter uncomfortableness masked by fake indifference if I ask them.

I think some men do buy into the idea of Jeremy Fragrance and colognes being panty droppers as he often says when he reviews fragrances.

It's unlikely that anyone around me would do that, and even though he has some great guests on his show I’m just glad I haven’t permanently lowered my level of consciousness by watching too much Joe Rogan.

If there's one thing I've grown more and more sick of as I've got older, it's that 'British sense of humour' which is often nothing more than just shitting on other people or ideas that threaten to under the guise of being self deprecating at the same time.

There's a middle ground to all of this.

If you're expecting, let alone demanding, some 'thing' from anyone of the basis of scent, you're doing in horribly wrong. Equally, I think making an 'art' out of fragrance is a bit...hmmm...it doesn't quite chime with/for me. A bit like clothing - it's not 'you'. It's a uniform, a surface image. It's just a really nice aspect of how you present yourself in public. And, done tastefully with an appealing fragrance, makes all the loud mouth mockery wither away. And yes, it's 'for' other people as well - but not everyone, all the time, in a huge cloud of 1 Million.
