Default I really dislike Creed's new direction as a house

Aventus for Her: Some staggeringly revolting peach aromoachemical (and I LOVE peach) with loads of Ambrox-type nastiness.
Viking: A boring but smart composition supported by another Ambroxan bomb?
Aventus Cologne: It doesn't smell bad but, but MORE AMBROXAN.
White Amber: Joltingly boring, and with a price that boggles the mind. The Les Royal Exclusives used to bring something somewhat special to the table, but this??

Creed seems to have morphed into an outrageously priced mall brand.

Some of the love seems to have died down a bit. It used to be huge on Basenotes.

I still like and enjoy the house and its recent masculine and unisex releases.

It would not surprise me if they are going downhill. A lot of other fragrance companies have also gone downhill. The main thing I used to have against Creed were their prices. In addition I never thought they were that great. For example Aventus to me is just a dirty pineapple type scent.Something that could be a mall type scent. I am not trying to knock them, but to me they are quite over rated. However to each their own.

Honestly I never really got the hype about Creed. I have one bottle from there (the second fragrance I ever bought) and the sales associates there are always rather kind to me and generous with giving me samples but... their fragrances just don't do it for me that much. Some are pleasant but in that price range I can find a lot of things I like better.

My boyfriend seems to really like them though.

I think their new direction has been very successful. They now have four (I think) boutiques in the U.S. People are obviously buying what they are selling. And at those prices! This is the way I look at it: I have almost everything I want from Creed, so I really don't care what they do from here on out. If their new offerings don't tickle my fancy (and they haven't so far) there's plenty of other things from other houses that will. I feel exactly the same way about Dior, though Dior's situation does sadden me a bit.

They're well marketed and I don't think their direction as a house is veering off course. Plus they've probably increased their prices quite a bit at the expense of the buyer.
I do agree that their SA's are quite generous if they know you are a regular customer. I'm not a Creed fanboy but I do like a few of their offerings...

I do agree the Aventus for Her is not good. Aventus Cologne I've only smelled briefly and need to spend more time with. But Viking I do enjoy and so many of the older Creeds I also love, so I will continue to enjoy the Creeds I have and won't worry about the ones I don't like...just like with every other fragrance house.

Personally not much of a fan of any new releases. Once tech n9ne started making references to aventus in his songs i felt too old to wear aventus. Older releases > newer releases

All of the Creeds from the last 12 years haven't been that great for me. My preference is for the Private Collection and EDT collections. Some of the millesime bottles are great but the batches have been poorly made the last several years.

The house of Creed that I used to know has all but died, I'm just thankful of all the opportunities of securing rarities in the last several years.

It’s no more one of the most expensive and luxury brands around. It’s one of the most (if not the most) popular niche brand. Lost its “magic”.

It’s a trend they’re following to appeal to a new(er) generation of customers. I enjoy a number of their older fragrances but unlike some fans here I’m not as invested in Creed as a brand so I don’t particularly care if they pursue a path of least resistance. I agree, Aventus for Her is abysmal - IMO it smells worse than stuff from Victoria’s Secrets.

Creed with all the batch inconsistencies makes it hard for a person to throughly enjoy and repeat buy their stuff. I always have enjoyed Aventus wore the hell out of it but moved on from it. If I could buy their fragrance and when I needed more could buy it again and not worry about it smelling different then things would be different. I know there is talk about natural materials and maturing etc, but when you need and want to wear it now it needs to be ready now haha. I think their older fragrances will always be the highlight of the house a few of the newer ones are good too but with most houses the classics are the best!

I kinda like Aventus For Her, and I kinda like Viking, but even before retirement, I would have balked at current prices for anything but a signature-worthy scent. Definitely not feeling it for "kinda liked" fragrances.

Back in the day, an occasional 200 to 300 bucks for a "well-liked but not top ten" fragrance in a reasonable quantity made sense. $500 for "meh to not bad" doesn't make sense.

Creed in the UK have moved into department stores, they were always in certain boutiques only. Not sure if that has to do with their distributors here Orange Square making they more mainstream?

They have a counter in my House of Fraser now called Frasers and I know the SA from other brands she worked for. If chatting to her I notice it is 20 somethings who seem to be buying both sexes. She meets her very high well compared to other fragrance counters targets without a problem so Creed seems to be selling really well here. Now, I admit I am not a fan of the new fragrances could never ever understand Adventus and thought Viking boring. But that is me, I love the older Bois du Portugal oh that one seems to sell really well according to the SA. I have not had the urge to buy a Creed in many years. Hell, I remember the 30mls sizes selling for £40+!

I've always associated Creed with a certain kind of bro, plus the marketing and cost...hence I've only ever tried 2 (Aventus and GIT). Nice quality but wasn't interested in spending that much money on either. Indeed I regretted spraying GIT on my skin as Cool Water has scarred me for life and generally has put me off scents that are somewhat similar and I was on the way to a birthday party and stuck with for a while. My woman flat out disliked Aventus.

What is Dior's "situation"?? (sorry if it is common knowledge, I have honestly no idea)

As far as Creed goes, I think its always been an overrated and overpriced brand, especially for what you get. Batch inconsistencies are part of it, sure, but Creed fragrances generally don't perform that well or last that long either - especially current formulations. Sure, three of my all-time favorites are from Creed (Aventus, Royal Oud, and Bois du Portugal) but I wear a 2014 Aventus, a 2010 Royal Oud, and an early 90's BdP. Modern Creed? You can have current Creed. I'll stick with Chanel and Dior; pleasing, high quality, well blended fragrances that perform well, are the SAME batch-to-batch, and don't cost an arm and a leg.

I didn't get into them until recently. My last sample order I ended up with with a number of Creed perfumes and a few I really like despite all the negative reviews here on Basenotes. Honestly for the price I better love it though.

I remember when 120ml bottles were going for roughly $250 back in 2011.

Yup. That was a sweet spot for average Basenoters, with some going to discounters and splits, others going to flacons at the high end.
