I used to own Guess by Marciano, Man and Suede many years ago and they were decent casual everyday fragrances, especially at the low price point they can be often found. Not a repeat buy and not masterpieces by any stretch of imagination, but pleasant.

I had Guess Man, which is pretty cheap, and a nice looking bottle in my opinion.

It's a step up from cheapos like the various Adidas colognes.
It's a step down in quality compared to the higher end designer brands like Armani, Dior, Polo, etc.

Personally, I wouldn't say it's worth owning in of itself. I wouldn't even use it as a dumb reach/office scent because it's very synthetic and average synthetic-smelling stuff feels cloying to me, no matter how pleasant the scent. However, I've smelled it on other people and it smells pretty good!

I'm thinking of buying it again for my collection, to wear on that rare occasion when I'm feeling nostalgic for the mid-2000s.

In my opinion it's on the same level as Liz Claiborne stuff like Mambo, Lucky Scent, etc.

I've tried Seduction once and it smelled also very synthetic but not bad at all. I'm kind of over the higher end designer brands, and just want something simple and pleasant so I might look to Guess's line up.

I liked Guess Man. But havent smelled it in a long time. Might think its terrible now, id love to try it.
It’s tragic to think that heroic man’s great destiny is to become economic man, that men will be reduced to craven creatures who crawl across the globe competing for money, who spend their nights dreaming up new ways to swindle each other.

My beginning years I remember trying them, none stood out to me to keep them or repurchase performance is lacking also.

It's somewhat fuzzy but I remember them being a tad more popular in the 90s. As opposed to a cheapie collecting dust at the discounters.
A friend of fine used to wear something by them. I don't remember which. I loved everything Guess back then, especially their jeans. I would imagine their cologne quality was much better back then.

So far liked Guess by Marciano the most and while not having rated this quite outstanding, its does provide a fairly decent quality and performance for its good price

I've tried a few and the only one I remember because it was kind of weird was Seductive Homme. But it's not worth owning, just has a big orchid note that's distinct but not necessarily in a good way. The others I can't even remember other than finding them very generic and boring.

There was one fragrance that I was impressed with, (couldn't remember which one it was) and I was hoping that this thread would lead me to it, but I managed to find it by searching the dominant notes in the end.
It 's Guess 1981 for Men. It's almost a copy of Gucci pour Homme, (2003 release) with the same dominant resins/incense and cedarwood blend.
It does get good reviews on fragrantica.

I've seen this comparison before in this forum and in fragrantica reviews and I don't get the comparison or similarity. Actually someone made this exact point in a post a few months ago and that motivated me to try 1981 again - it's nothing like GPH 2003 IMO, other than sharing some notes on paper.

In the comments above, the Guess scents are referred to as cheapie or low price point scents. That may well be the perception if one lives in the USA or Australia, but in Europe they aren't inexpensive as they typically sell there somewhere around the 55 to 60 Euro mark - same price point as say Calvin Klein and Azzaro.

I have quite a few of them. Their old ones stand out, their newer ones smell a bit bland to me - but I find that to be the case with most of the newer scents from say Versace, Boss and Gucci (most older scents used to unambiguously say "Man present", newer ones often seem to say "Man present maybe, please excuse me if you notice").

All the ones I've owned or tried have decent lasting power.

Can't say I see the similarity between the powerhouse Gucci Pour Homme and the non-powerhouse Guess 1981.
    Regards,
    Renato

In the discount stores, CK and Azzaro are pretty much the same price as Guess. Perhaps Guess may be a few dollars less. The main difference is the department stores still carry CK and Azzaro. The only place in the states, besides online, to find Guess is discounters. Occasionally, WalMart may carry them. Possibly Meijer or Kohl's.

From memory, in the USA the latest one or two Guess fragrances were sold at non-discount prices in the actual Guess stores.

I wore Guess Man yesterday (prompted by this thread). I liked it, as it's relatively potent.
    Cheers,

Actual Guess store? Hmm. I don't know if this counts but there's a Guess Outlet store about an hour from me.

I've only ever been in the USA for a month, where my wife bought a few small bags of Guess jewellery. I don't recollect Guess scents in the outlet store outside LA. Just saw them in the main Guess stores in the middle of city centres.

I'm surprised you haven't seen them. There was one in every US city we visited, and there's one in every sizeable tourist town in Italy too.
    Cheers,
    Renato

The malls in the Indianapolis area, as far as I know, don't carry Guess, nor do they have Guess stores. I could be wrong but I've not seem them.

Ive said it before but guess seductive is one of the best compliment getting fragrances ive ever owned. At one point I was getting so many compliments on it, when a girl finally told me she thought it was just ok. I was actually... shocked. Like I couldnt believe it. I got so many compliments I actually got bored of it since I dont love it myself. And I couldnt tell you the last time I wore it.

Whatever the case guess seductive I would basically describe as something like skittles or those pixi sticks as a kid, with a bit of a bathroom/aftershave whatever that smell is in the background.

Ive heard people say the blue one does well compliment wise as well, kinda smells like a aquatic la nuit with that.. smells kinda interesting actually but just never something I feel like wearing. So couldnt tell you how well it really does with the ladies. But hey its cheap just like the other one.
