Default The new Cabochard (2019) and Cabochard Cherie?

I just found out about this new version of Cabochard and a flanker, Cabochard Cherie.

The only reviews I can find are at Fragrantica, where about half seem to applaud it for being similar enough to the old stuff. The other half are just horrified at it being credited to the long-dead Bernard Chant:

    https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/...019-55533.html

This online seller in New Jersey has it for $21 for 100ml (!). At that price I just blind bought it, Cabochard fanatic that I am. Comments on this site are hilarious, no one seems to have sniffed it and almost everyone outs themselves as being over 60 years old:

I can't really find anything about the Cherie flanker, but the blurb on the Parfums Gres website makes it sound like just another fruity floral.

Anybody else seen these or tried them?

Your recommendation of this (or at least the older stuff) as guy-wearable had me interested, but the "German stewardess sex" review has me thinking this really needs investigation!

Your review will be awaited eagerly!

Yes, wasn't that comical? "I first made love to a German stewardess back in 1969...." As if there had been a whole parade of them ever since then!

I should have the new stuff within a couple of days, if the seller is prompt. Mail from New Jersey usually makes it to me in less than 72 hours.

Looking forward to your assessment of the new Cabochard, Cook.bot. I see there is 2019 EDT as well as a 2019 EDP. The Cherie version looks like a standard pink-chouli. Notes are said to be “bergamot, pear and basil; middle notes are narcissus, orange blossom and freesia; base notes are patchouli, praline and leather.”

Looks dismal, doesn't it? I'm hoping they poured all their devilry into the Cherie and left Madame Cab alone!

I can't fathom why they felt they needed a pink Cabochard flanker. I mean, they have eighteen -- 18! -- of those nasty Cabotine fruity-floral flankers to cover that particular territory.

    And, like that, he’s gone.

Actually, I like Cabotine! I also like the original leathery Cabochard in the EDP.

My bottle of the new Cabochard arrived today. The good news is that the bottle is lovely, heavy thick-bottomed glass with champfered corners.

The bad news you can probably guess.

If I were blindfolded I don't think I could tell the difference between this and the most recent formulation, the one in the tall bottle with the embossed frosted bow on it -- the one on the far right in the photo below. However, my bottles of that era list "evernia prunastri" (oakmoss) in its igredients, and this newest bottle does not, and you can definitely smell the difference in the base. Also, the top of this new one seems somehow rougher, even though it's still a big blast of galbanum. I also think it has a weaker tobacco note.

I haven't had the heart to do a sideXside comparison yet, especially not against the true vintage. But I may do so tomorrow when I'm off work.

Fortunately for me, I don't detest Cabo from the frosted-bow era as much as many people do, so I'll probably get some use out of this bottle, even if only as a pillow spray.

You recommended Cabochard for guys - does that hold for either this version, or for the "remaining stock" tall bottles of EDP or EDT at discounters? Or is only the vintage really guy-friendly in your subjective opinion?

I actually think all three of them are perfectly suited to males -- after all, Cabochard was the parent of Aramis. Like most of Bernard Chant's femme scents, it reads as more male than female in today's perfume environment.

Now that I've had it on a few hours, this new version is a lot less leathery and smokey than the previous one, and MILES less smokey than the original, but it still has enough of those qualities to be perceived as masculine.

Excellent! Thanks for that! You did not steer me wrong on "l'objet du culte", so I'm psyched!
