Default Plum Japonais by Tom Ford apparently discontinued.

This is one of my favourite Tom Fordís. I am really sad to see it discontinued. There are still stock available, but it is apparently not produced any more. I just ordered another bottle at a discounted price.

To me Plum Japonais is an opulent and comforting scent. The plum note with the spices is just perfectly mixed. I just really love it. It is one of the best Private Blendís and it is really sad to see it go, but that is life I guess.

Seems strange to discontinue it now after so many years of it being in production. I wouldn't bet on it yet but at least, if you love it, you know to stock up.

Damn. First Shanghai Lily and now Plum Japonaise? Plum Japonaise is the only remaining Tom Ford scent I'm interested in. Perhaps....maaaybe Vert Boheme.

    That was a smart move.

I guess the aqua line sells better.

I have felt that plum jap is close to Lutyens like feminine de bois

Its nice. Definitely opulent and rich. Little much for my tastes, but a good scent. Thats not to be underestimated. Lots of trash they could dc before axing a competent frag.

A few of the recently discontinued private blends have reappeared some time later as limited re-releases with a significant increase in price, so that might be what's happening here. It's smart if you think about it -- consumers panicked about discontinuation scoop up existing inventory, then those who didn't get it are forced to buy the premium priced re-release for fear of missing their window of opportunity.

I got small decants of both Moss Breches and Japon Noir, and I love them both. Unfortunately I don’t think it is worth the price to get the full bottles now so many years after discontinuation. The risk of getting a fake is also very high. I think of them as the two that got away. I can only hope that Tom Ford will bring them back in the future.

Even if they were brought back, there's an almost certainty that they will NOT be the same formulation as they were so many years earlier. If you see what has happened to the original lineup - what they were back in the early days and now, many of them are pale shadows of their former selves.

I suspect Plum Japonais has been taking some of the shine away from Lost Cherry, which. Is not too dissimilar. They are both rich boozy fruity fragrances, so they have chosen to keep the one that has the mega pricing.

As for reissues, Tom Ford have openly admitted the gold plated private blends are in some cases reimagined versions of the originals. They seemingly have done a very good job with Amber Absolute.

and there's an additional $100+ to the price tag to go along with those 50ml bottles.

My mainstays in the luxe line are the Ombre Leather (I have the 16 and the main release), Oud Wood and Tobacco Vanille. I hope they keep those in the lineup. I am still upset they canned Violet Blond.

I have probably around an ounce of it but it’s pretty rare that I wear it, and when I do a little goes a long way. It’s very “thick”. My meager amount should last me pretty much forever.

God what is TF playing at? Plum Japonais is my favorite private blend. I'm going to have to get another 250ml bottle for backup. The Private Blends have really lost their way if you ask me. A cant remember the last release that I actually thought was worthy of its predecessors. All the best ones get discontinued.

The only newer Private Blend I may eventually get is Tobacco Oud Intense, but I've been burned out on too frequent releases, and many too mediocre.

But thats just it, they're essentially just flankers. Oud Wood Intense, Neroli Portofino Forte, Tuscan Leather Intense, Tobacco Oud Intense....

Its almost like they weaken the original formulation only to bring it back as a stronger, more expensive version

There's very little that is genuinely new and what they do release as new is generally poor and over priced.

Exactly. I have been bummed out by the recent releases from Tom Ford. Especially the gold plaque releases, as they are just too expensive for me. And also the rereleases are priced way out of my league.

Gotta agree with that. Went to a store that had both and caught myself relating it to a Lutens I had smelled. Too bad the latter has some of the worst performance issues i've ever seen in a fragrance because it smells amazing

I have to ask but why not just go for the alexandria forbidden plums clone? From what i've read around here, it seems like a better version of plum japonais...Can anybody weigh in on that?
