Default Notes that you cannot tolerate

Guys, I am a pretty open minded and “open nosed” guy, and I enjoy most notes in the olfactory universe. But some smells do make me feel ill or repulsed. I can’t stand them. Argh.
    Here is the list:
    • Rubber notes (such as in Iquitos, it smells like prophylactics)
    • “Extremely” Synthetic Sandalwood (such as in Egoiste)
    • Boozy notes (such as in Michael Kors)
    • Chocolate notes (such as in A* Men)
    • Anise notes (such as in Opium PH EDP)
    • Extreme body odor notes (such as in Muscs Koublai Khan – I regret that I bought it. Seriously, the basenotes smell like Serge Lutens’ private parts)
    • Synthetic smelling fruity notes (such as in Beyond Paradise)

Do you feel this way towards any specific notes, or accords? Please share your feelings of repulsion with us.

I usually don't like tonka bean as it often smells cheap. The only exception for me is Grand Soir.

Agreed with those (even if I would have chosen a different example for the chocolate note (like Bvlgari Blv Notte, for example)

    What I can't handle is:
    - foody cinnamon (like in HdP 1899 or Costume National Homme)
    - apple (PdM Layton, YSL Y edp)
    - tonka (if in excess, like in Chanel Allure Extreme or Armani Code Profumo)
    - the mainstream synthetic woody/ambery base (many mainstream frags like Armani Code Profumo or D&G The One to cite just a couple...)
    - stupid sweetness when too strong (TF Noir Extreme)
    - milky apricot

Sandalwood doens;t smell like sweat, but it is often paired with spices to enhance it (often cumin, often referred as the body odor spice).

    Given that, I suggest:
1/ you give sandalwood a 2nd chance, and try Geo F Trumper Sandalwood
2/ you stay clear from Lutens Santal de Mysore

Thanks so much, this book, together with The Last of The Wine, made a deep impression on me.

Several fruit notes, too heavy/sweet floral ones, too smoky and heady incense, also while not particular spices like cinnamon and cumin on their own, rather their use/rendition in certain fragrances

I can tolerate it but not too keen on tuberose.

From some santalum album and other oils I've smelled sandalwood can have a surprisingly sour lactic aroma, a bit yoghurt-like even, so I can see how that could come across as a sour sweat.y aroma that differs from the BO type smell that is similar to cumin.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

Butter. I'm not a fan of butter in real life, and smelled a fragrance I otherwise would have loved with a strong butter note that made me feel physically sick recently.

"Rubber" notes. That being said, I never liked Bvlgari Black or Van Cleef Midnight In Paris. Maybe they don't have rubber notes in them per se, but there's something that triggers the sensation of it to me. I also never liked Bvlgari Blv for men, smelled like stale flowers left in a vase full of old water so it had to be something about certain flower notes. Some women frags really make me sick because of overly pungent flower notes.

I struggle with the following if they are overdosed:

    - Metallic notes (Wall Street and Platinum Egoiste are straight up scrubbers on me)
    - Aldehydes (most femme / Chanel Exclusif are out)
    - Tonka (Feve Delicieuse is nice, but wore me out very quickly)
    - Tuberose (Do Son, Tuberose Criminelle to some extent)
    - Immortelle (Like This / La Participe Passe, if overdone it's too savoury for my liking)
    - Fruitchouli accord (too many to mention)
    - Barnyard ouds (the real thing, my lord these are stinkers to be used sparingly)

Iso E Super is my kryptonite.

Also I can’t really stand Calone and other salty sea smells.

There are a few but top of the list would be narcissus. This is mainly due to a female oversprayer years ago that turned me from calm indifference to the note to out-and-out nauseous rage.

Same with me. Exactly. Also cinnamon when it's a main note or strong civet when it's front and center.

Faecal notes as in Zoologist Hyrax. Who wants to smell like they've just soiled themselves and want to cover it up with perfume?

Maybe that situation is how the scent originated.

Oh god yes. Narcissus is the worst, both the flower and the perfume material. Literally nauseating.

Followed closely by rubber notes, but at least they don't make me feel like I'm going to puke.

    Copy/Paste from another topic:

What is your least favorite fragrance genre/group?
Ozonic/Aquatic. I hate them with passion.

What are your least favorite accords?
Tuscan Leather's leather type accord, wet concrete, wet cardboard, some dirty accords (explicitly fecal, halitosis, goat hair), rotten fruits, very bitter and sour herbal/floral, harsh pencil shavings, cheese, some medicinal ouds, cypriol/nagarmotha based ouds, vinegar, rubber, metallic.

What are your least favorite notes?
Calone, vanilin, ambroxan, violet leaf, straight-forward patchouli, straight-forward angelica, litchi, apple, hyacinth, tomato leaf, Sichuan pepper.

How does it bother you? It's scratchy, or what? In the middle, or in the base?

    2. Maybe it's a Merda d'Artista (click here) sort of thing.

Try Lalique Fleur Universelle, maybe you change your mind - sirupy immortelle whith an addictive boozy top.

What in the name of all that's holy is that horrible salty-metallic smell which I detect in many perfumes? The last one was a Jimmy Choo - Man Intense or Man Blue (I smelled only the cap).
    Calone + something else?

Why such a thing exist? Why?

Calone, I suppose. I adore the sea and perfumes which evoke it, but am regularly disappointed by anything with 'marine' in the notes.... and most fruit accords, especially apple or coconut.

Extremely Synthetic Sandalwood, such as in Egoiste, makes me wanna vomit. I know it is nasty to say this, but it is true! I feel it in the base. Some other sandalwoods do not give me any trouble, for example in Hammam Bouquet or Parfum D'Habit.

Even a narcissus-hater like me has to admit what a superior piece of art Ostara is. A masterful creation. So much so that I bought a bottle of it as a gift for my boss, who adores both the flower and the scent. But I made her vow to never wear it around me.
