    Default Serge lutens performance issues?

Anybody else having issues with Serge Lutens? I went and sampled a bunch of their perfumes but seems like they all seem to be weak and can barely last on me (looking at you féminite du bois). Fille en aiguilles sticks to clothes but not so much skin, Chergui did okay, fille de berlin was good but a little overwhelming with the roses.

I ordered a 50ml of five o clock au gingembre but i'm leaning towards returning it after being disapointed with the performance of the scents. Which really sucks considering how amazing each one of them smelled. Anybody else felt that? Is the five o clock au gingembre worth keeping around? had I had to chose one from the ones I sampled, it would have been a tie between féminite du bois and aiguilles with féminite being the more wearable fragrance.

How much do you spray? Maybe you do too many sprays and your nose gets tired and stops smelling it.
Everything I tried from Lutens was very strong and lasted until I washed it off.

That doesn’t sound right. Serge Lutens Five O’Clock Au Gingembre is one of my strongest performers both on the sillage and longevity fronts. Unless recent ones suffer from the dreaded ‘R’...

    Thankfully no issues with performance.

I have not smelled the most recent versions of most. The old ones were pretty strong, and the Cuir Mauresque I bought a month ago is still very strong.

So perhaps it's as others were saying, nose fatigue, or just too dry air. When it's cold and the air is dry, performance is affected.

Personally, I have quite a few bottles from the brand, and the only one that is rather light is Iris Silver Mist (but I don't apply more than a couple of sprays). The rest are solid performers.

Feminite du Bois is a rather treacherous fragrance. It's chock-full with Iso E Super, so you may become desensitised to the scent, but believe me, it leaves a very strong trail that others can smell.

It depends utterly on which fragrance you're using. Iris Silver Mist, De Profundis, Rose de Nuit, and Al Attarine are all somewhat ephemeral; however, his "stewed fruits" ensemble tends to be louder and long lasting. And La Myrrhe is almost frightening in its throw and longevity.

Many of Lutens' scents have, indeed, been reformulated and are now less deep and lasting than they used to be, but really it all comes down to which individual scent you are using.

All my Lutens have fabulous longevity and very good projection. I love them.

five o clock i didn't get to really get a good whiff of because by the time i got to it my nose was exhausted and i had no more place on my skin but I did read that it is quite the beast hence why i went with it!

I'm glad to see that it dosen't seem to be the general case with Lutens, i'll be getting my bottle in the next few days so i'll have a better idea. Glad to see nobody seems to be generally disapointed!

I have several including some more recent bottles, and 'performance' hasn't been an issue. I also agree that some like Iris Silver Mist can be subtle and fleeting, but the majority of the line are adequately diffusive and tenacious in my experience. Having said that, that's not to discount your experience, so perhaps you could try using more sprays or just ignoring the line and look elsewhere if you are dissatisfied.

I have lots of Lutens bottles, including the most recent 100ml of Five O’Clock, and no performance issues whatsoever.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but if I were buying Lutens these days, I'd get them from outfits like Fragrancenet and FragranceX. They still carry a lot of the now-discontinued old 50ml bottles, and the price is usually right with them.

The only Lutens I've had that seemed lacking in performance is a considerably older bottle of Chergui that just didn't have the punch that a sample I had previously smelled did. Either it was from a batch that was weak to begin with, or it was losing it's go-power simply because it was old.

As to reformulations of Lutens things, as I understand, they've apparently been been regularly fussing with their batches since way before the current IFRA dust-ups kicked in.

And yeah, 5Oclock should be pretty persistent, and nothing you'd want to call weak. Fun stuff, which I'm always glad that I have.

Universally I have had moderate to good performance with every Serge Lutens that I've tried over the years.

So far, never had performance issue with all the Lutens fragrances either owned or tested at some point, included but not limited to: Chergui, Feminite du Bois, Ambre Sultan, Chypre Rouge.

Even if performance levels were muted to skin scent/moderate after a few hours, longevity was nevertheless better than with most designer and even entry level niche scents in the same category-either the SL fragrances personally bought, received and/or used never being expensive in the first place and/or having had very advantageous deals on each, further improved by their above average performance.

Well, I've broken out with chest acne from spraying it there, so that has made me step back and think about purchasing full size, but no problems if sprayed on clothing or hair.

The only one I have that has issues with performance is Chypre Rouge. I've never bought from another bell jar since even though I've enjoyed many of them.

Performance has been excellent in my experience with five or so SL fragrances.

Good choice with the 5 O’Clock - enjoy!
