    Default a Lancome thread

I am really enjoying Lancome Balafre.

Agree-very enjoyable. And so is its citrusy companion, Sagamore.

Sagamore and Balafre are good. There are a bunch I haven't tried. I haven't loved some of their fragrances marketed to women.

L'o de lancome is another good one-previously a chypre, now a citrus vetiver, but still very good.

The current feminines are a bit too sweet (la vie est belle). Magie noire was a big boned one. They also came up with an exclusive line, which isn't bad.

I’ve scored this and the Vert and Brun flankers in the past year, but still haven’t tried them on. Maybe I should stop buying things.

    Nah.

Same here. Old school, in the same league as Ted Lapidus por Homme.
Shame my Balfre bottle I bought from ebay was spoilt.

Even if slightly off-topic (since personally not wearing these scents rather than enjoying if they worn by others), always enjoying the vintage versions of Magie Noire, Tresor and O.
Also happening to like both the masculine and feminine versions of Miracle, while considering at least sampling (almost irrespective how costly and complicated to get) the masculine release of O-all these six by this house of Lancome, not necessarily but still preferably as vintages.

Lancome is a house that is very rarely spoken about. I never tried Balafre, but around 20 years ago I had O de Lancome in the frosted glass bottle and loved its tartness.

I used to wear some Sagamore when I wanted an alternative to Pour Monsieur. It’s a quality chypre, smells good, creamier, muskier than PM, but less clarity and fairly dull. The newer stuff I bought ten years ago is good. If it’s been reformulated again, it probably isn’t. Feels a little elderly these days, but I might wear it again.

I think regulations on styrax have probably wiped it out, but I'm sure there are some older bottles. I'd be interested to hear what you think about it.

Also wonderful. Lucky to still have a large spray of this.

I do love Cuir, so much so that I bought a back up bottle. My bottles are from the 2007 re-release. I'd love to know what the vintage scent was like.

It's very good. Polite and delicate within the leather spectrum, but tastefully and artfully composed. Warm and inviting.

Since we're sharing, here's my Sagamore:

I have never smelled Balafre. Per above about it being Samamore's cousin, how similar are they in the base, knowing Sagamore opens in a more citric way?

Is that a large spray or splash? Hard to tell. Sagamore and Balafre are not similar at all to me in the base.

50ml splash. How would you say they differ? I find Sagamore to be a warm, fuzzy cyphre, to Pluran's point above.

Sagamore is woodier while Balafre is mossier.

I have a little Balafre bottle, 20 ml, I can include in the next shipment.

The way my nose is calibrated, nothing can be mossier than Sagamore, and definitely not Balafre. I might be confused about what moss smells like, though. For example, I might only get it as moss if there's enough citrus in the mix, or something like that.

I love Balafre and the Brun is even better I think.

Also, O pour homme is really good for spring and summer.

I didn't know there is Balafre Brun, and Balafre Vert.

Anyone tried these? I got a blind buy of Balafre Brun on the way.

Still need Programme Homme and Ô pour Homme to complete my collection of 20th century Lancôme masculines. Then I have to wear them.
