Default Do you compliment other peoples cologne?

I've come to the shocking realization that as an entry-level hobbyist, I have never issued a single compliment to anyone regarding their fragrance.
I'm not exactly opposed to giving compliments, or asking someone what they're wearing; however, I've never encountered someone wearing a fragrance that compelled me to.

I complement my wife, children, grandchildren and some other close family members only.

No, people are usually easily offended better off not doing so. If it’s a spouse yea of course or good friend maybe.

If I smell something I like, I speak up. Almost every time. I say something nice about it and ask what it is.

I always do - with a nice smile, I’ll say something polite but not provocative. "Lovely scent you’re wearing." Something complimentary without requiring a response and break off eye contact. If they choose to engage me further, it’s their decision.

I've personally have never been in that kind of situation, people don't typically wear fragrances in my geographical location.
There have been a few times I've been at the gym and smelled Dior Fahrenheit and thought to myself "Oh nice, what a breath of fresh air, someone wearing an old-school non-blue style fragrance, this person has good taste, and I am truly blessed to also own Fahrenheit in my collection"; however, I already know it's Fahrenheit, and the person is lifting weights so I leave them alone.

Most of the time when I come in contact with someone wearing a fragrance, it's usually either slightly repulsive and smelling of chemicals, or yet another non-memorable blue/aquatic that leaves a neutral impression.

In most cases, any comment would seem too intimate, or else a backhanded way of telling someone they're wearing too much. My wife and I discuss each other's fragrances, but that's about it.

Sure. I compliment anyone on anything that comes to mind. Some people take it weirdly for what could be a myriad of reasons. Most take it nicely. The smell of perfume is not as intimate as we'd like to tell our self as we romantically wax about on this website. It's similar to where romantic passes can be taken as charming or "creepy" it all just depends on who's doing it to whom, and I'd never let someone else being a weirdo cage me in.

If someone in a casual setting smelled wonderful and I didn't recognize the scent, but liked it enough that I wanted to try it myself, then I might simply say that I collect perfume and wonder if he/she would share the name of the fragrance with me. Situations like this used to arise, when I worked as a hairstylist - but now they never do, and I seem to be the only person in town who wears perfume. I would never even suspect my fellow citizens of using scented soap or dryer sheets.

In a professional setting such as Zealot Crusader describes, however, I wouldn't comment on anyone's fragrance.

If you don’t mind my asking, what type of badged uniform do you wear? I enjoy your reviews immensely, so colorfully and elegantly articulated, and would have sworn that your profession involved writing of some kind.

If someone is smelling good I will compliment them and ask what they are wearing.
If I don’t speak up then people think I’m acting weird when I am sniffing around them.

I smell fragrance at the gym quite often. I never bring it up there. But I bartend part time and if I smell something good, I always offer a compliment and an inquiry as to what it is. I also detect a fragrance or two when I'm in church.

Too niche of an interest if you think about it, and nobody wants to pay for an opinion.

Have some confidence. I'm on the planet one time. If I smell something good on another person, I'm gonna tell them they smell good, and then I'm gonna ask them what it is.

No, unless it's something outstanding and I actually want to know the name of the perfume, which never happened when it comes to strangers. It's a bit creepy or what a salesman/con artist would do. If random people approach you here it's usually because they want some spare change or to shag you senseless.
