Default Bored, so I'm going to wear my wardrobe in alphabetical order

After two weeks of Shelter in Place I find my motivation is in short supply for just about everything, including choosing my SOTD. Therefore, I'm going to eliminate decision making and wear my wardrobe in alphabetical order. First up will be 31 Rue Cambon on Sunday.

I might join you. That sounds fantastic. So far my idea was wear all the things I’ve worn once or less. Some of them it’s a pleasant surprise. Some I remember why I don’t wear them!

    This is super humorous.
I must say, 31 Rue Cambon is a fabulous Chypre start for just being alphabetical.

If the 29 bottle count is still in effect, that will cover roughly one month. As hednic says, should be easy. Go for it, Trilby Lark!

I might do an analysis or rating of each one while I'm at it.

Yep, still at 29. That Patchouli Nobile you introduced me to is pulling at my heartstrings though. It could inspire me to drain my lowest bottle which might be L'Air du Desert Marocain. That wouldn't be so horrible.

Ha, I love this idea! I find choosing my scent to be one of the highlights of the day in these boring times but even that is starting to get a little old. I've been considering buying a bunch of samples but the last few times I did that they all turned our to be pretty disappointing. Your idea may be better...

I'm wearing this today too after getting an EDT whereas I only smelled the EDP before and can't recall the specific differences. That's interesting you say sweet and sour I can imagine that. You wear this a lot what are you other thoughts on it? Maybe in the wake of oakmoss limitations the sweet sour is what makes this interesting even today, whereas most chypres that are well received now tend to be artisan versions of classics or chypre chimeras.

I forgot if I've ever sampled 31 Rue Cambon before. I remember Turin talking about it a lot.

Trilby what do you think about it? Are you a 'real chypre' fan and if so how do you think 31RC compares to 'true' chypres?

I find 31 rue Cambon to be cold, even icy, probably attributable to its iris. At the same time, it's wet. Its coldness reminds me of Dzongkha and generally it brings to mind Chanel's Cristalle and Gabrielle. Is it a chypre? I say yes in that it's aggressively perfumy.

Update: I just looked up chype and it is characterized as warm and dry, the opposite of my experience. Oh well!

I'll give my opinion having own or owned all of the queens of chypres Mitsouko. I currently only have a 80-100 year old extrait (which apart from the bergamont being greatly diminished is still in tact somehow) and have owned 60's extrait, 80's extrait, 90's EDP and EDT along with a 70's I think it was EDC, and of course having smelled the current formula. I can say 31 Rue Cambon is a fantastically done facsimile of a chypre lacking oakmoss. See there's this aura that exists within Mitsouko. I've never smelled anything like it. 31 Rue Cambon contains this aura. I wish I could put in into words to better understand, but it is simply something you have to smell to believe. This aura though is chypre and 31 can stand tall with the greats. In my mind it's similar to how most masterpieces from painters are done in oil, but more rarely, but still every once in awhile, you'll see a watercolor masterpiece. While I'm not suggesting 31 has a watercolor texture like Hermes fragrances do, I'm talking about how even though the medium (oakmoss) is changed, it still is substantial and sublime.

    Thanks.

I own and love Mitsouko and I've smelled it in most of its variations. Currently I only own 'vintage' EDT and soap and every time I wear it I'm smitten.

It is good stuff. I like hearing what other people think of perfumes because they'll put into words a facet of the perfume I've never even considered. You're right Trilby 31 is icy. It actually smells cold minus the physical sensation.

I like the idea, but first reaction was a bit of a laugh as am wondering how many people have a lot of bottles and they are not stored alphabetically? 29 bottles.... no biggy. 50 bottles, maybe. But say over 100 bottles.... next chore may be finding time to sort them all out first!!! As an occasionally compulsive-organized type mine are already alpha by house, but not by name, so no issue. But surely someone else has sorted by style, or type, or not at all!!!

Easy. The BN Wardrobe automatically, by default, lists all of the fragrances you've added alphabetically!

Easy. The BN Wardrobe automatically by default lists all of the fragrances you've added alphabetically! Just change it to 'Name'.

Day 2: Thierry Mugler Aura (2017)

    Floral Oriental: Sweet Green

    59th Most Worn (14 wears)

    30 ml. Remaining

Purchased September 2018 at Macys, South Coast Plaza

I inquired about Aura at Macy's months before its release and was told there was no such thing. The SA said she knew all about Mugler so perhaps it was another line. As a BN'er I typically know more than most SAs and have learned it's nearly impossible to tell them anything. Well, Macy's finally got their Aura in stock. The SA told me it was the worst perfume she ever smelled so I snuck back later and bought it when she wasn't looking. When I went to Nordstrom later the cosmetics SAs loved Aura on me. Shopping can be so much fun. I hope some of the malls survive.
