Cool Flankers That Far Surpass The Original

I know there are many. In this day and age, duds come out far more often than solid releases. Sometimes they make up for it by putting out an improvement on the original. I'm not just talking about an improvement here....I mean completely surpassing the original by a landslide.

The most notable that comes to my mind would be Gucci Guilty Absolute.

    Let's hear what you got!

Have you tried the original? Years ago I saw a splash of the original on the auction site but didn't spring.

I like my SOTD, Trumper Eucris EDP, a LOT more than the original EDT version.

Though already liking most of these fragrances in their initial, regular versions anyway, still mentioning:

    - Eau Sauvage Parfum and/or Fraicheur Cuir,

    - several Cerruti 1881 flankers including Edition Blanche, Amber, Black,

    - TDH Eau Intense Vetiver, Eau Tres Fraiche, Parfum among TDH flankers,

    - Fahrenheit Parfum and Absolute over Fahrenheit,

    - CK One Shock as opposed to CK One,

    - same situation with the Dior Homme flankers Intense, Parfum, Sport, Cologne,

    - as well as the Sport and Cologne flankers of l'Homme Ideal

    - Cedro and Intense to Solo Loewe

To add, I think there are a number of flankers of very popular designer scents that considerably top the originals, but from an overall perspective are not outright winners as the originals still sell well. For example, Ultra Male and Le Male Essence over Le Male, but Le Male itself still has a strong following.

Drakkar Noir is probably the most (in)famous flanker in perfuming history that answers the OP question.

Maybe Tom Ford Noir Extreme over Tom Ford Noir, but it's really a flanker in name only.

True. This probably takes the crown. Up until recently, I didn't even know there was 'just Drakkar'.

I'll add to the list by saying, Chanel Allure Edition Blanche EdP. I think this is way, way better than the original Allure, and completely different.

Luna Rossa Black and maybe even Prada Amber Intense --- 2 versions that imo veered way away from the originals

Actually, if very little remains of the original, are they really just flankers by name only?

Another good one and I agree a nicer take and adds a completely different idea to the Allure Homme line.

Although without wanting to invalidate Drakkar Noir (happening to enjoy owning and wearing this one) was never displeased with the initial Drakkar, not even the sweeter and more mainstream near-gourmand late 90s flankers Dynamik or, at bit more off-topic, even the first 70s non Drakkar masculine release by Guy Laroche

In terms of sales, probably Polo Blue because it's had many flanker-of-flankers while the original classic Polo languishes.

Another one is Acqua di Giò (and it's male counterpart Acqua di Giò pour Homme). There was an original Giò by Giorgio Armani (1992) released beforehand, perfumed by Francoise Caron (only for the women's market) that nobody remembers. It never got a male counterpart.

For me, Terre d'Hermes Parfum surpasses the original, though not by much - but I mean no disrespect for the original. In fact, I say it as a testament to how good the original is.

    Both versions are superb.

Is Tom Ford For Men Extreme a flanker of Tom Ford For Men? If so, it's significantly better than the original.

A few things that came to mind:

Tom Ford for Men Extreme beats the pants off of Tom Ford for Men.

Bvlgari Man Black Orient exceeds the original Bvlgari Man (as well as Bvlgari Man in Black).

Some mentioned that have preserved the original vibe in the flanker because the original vintage is scarce: to me the more obvious being Farenheit Parfum, whose beauty matches the vintage edt even if the petrol note is calmer.

I think original Armani Code was far too sweet and the flanker Code Absolu is a niche level bowtie and tux beauty. Bravo Armani

I, too, said, wait, Drakkur Noir is flanker? Of what... Oh it's a Noir
