Default Blind buying for 60th present

    Hi,

I appreciate that fragrances are personal, and that it’s a pretty hard thing to advise on, but I’ll ask anyway...

I’m looking to buy a 60th birthday present and will be blind buying for someone else.

Can you help advise on what is the safest blind buy?

    Thanks
    Joe

Because it's a blind buy, I went with ADG Profumo.

    Interesting results!

Hopefully this will help others too, as it’s not looking to find the “best”

From this very good selection, especially:

Eau Sauvage, Creed BDP, Antaeus, Aramis Tuscany, Chanel pour Monsieur

IMO, Chanel Pour Monsieur is even safer than Eau Sauvage.

Not knowing anything about the person, I would say IMO and for me, it would be Dior Eau Sauvage EDT.
Otherwise, and with a much higher budget, Creed GIT.

Aramis, Tom Ford, Amouage...are great but out of the question for a blind buy gift unless you know the person might enjoy less conservative compositions.

I couldn’t think of a better 60th birthday present fragrance than a bottle of Green Irish Tweed.

Splurge for your 60th—you’ve earned it.

Get Eau Sauvage on your 61st.

I'm torn between Eau Sauvage and Bois de Portugal, but went with the latter.

I think GIT is more common especially with Cool Water out there, etc. So in his 60 years, he would have already smelled that or some semblance of it more than likely.

I was 60 last month, and I would have been be please to receive almost any of these (don't know the Bond one, though). Since they are options, and therefore you probably have the budget, I would be particularly happy for any of: GIT, Bois de Portugal, Tuscan Leather, Jubilation XXV.

Lots of great choices, but since you're giving as a gift, I'd probably go with Creed GIT, just because it's a great fragrance and it's hard to imagine someone not liking it. It's also very versatile.

To me safest also pretty much means more os a typical smell that you find in lots of fragrances, so obviously GIT and Sauvage would be correct answers. But if you want to smell great and not as common, Jubilation or Tuscan Leather are the two BEST on the list imo

From the list: either Creed MI or Eau Sauvage.
Safer than anything from your list imo: Eau de Cartier, Mugler Cologne, Bvlgari Pour Homme Extreme, Voyage D'Hermès, Terre D'Hermès Eau Très Fraîche, Eau de Mandarine Ambrée, Guerlain Bergamote Calabria.

I went with BOIS DU PORTGUAL. Perhaps a personal bias. The best thing about being over 60 is wearing "mature" man scents with impunity.

But not knowing the 60-year-old dude in question GREEN IRISH TWEEED and EAU SAVAGE are probably the safer choices.

TUSCAN LEATHER and JUBILATION XXV might scare the guy.

    Thanks everyone for your help!

Torn between GIT and Eau Sauvage, will try and get samples between now and the end of next week before ordering.

You have a pretty good selection there. I think Dior ES would work as well as GIT and Antaeus. Some you might want to think about are YSL Rive Gauche, Hermes Bel Ami and ELDO je suis un homme.

Out ouf the two you really have to think about what kind of person you are buying for. If it's a low key gentleman that doesn't really care if his scent is noticed then go with ES but If he likes a bit of show off then GIT for sure.

Can’t go wrong with either Creed really. Would personally go GiT as the safer blind buy. Then again maybe Bdp is the better scent for a mature man? Depends on the person so only you can decide which is more appropriate.

Would steer clear of the designers (not that there’s anything wrong with them) and get something special seeing as it’s a 60th.

A bottle of Creed is a classy present and very befitting of a milestone birthday imo
