    Default looking for versatile Oud

    Hey gents,

looking for a new scent, and wanting a clean wearable oud that's versatile.

i have been sampling the following:

    montale oudmazing
    montale oud dream
    initio oud for Greatness

curious on your thoughts on these as I'm torn on which one , and also interested in more suggestions as I rather sample more options before buying.

In case it helps, my fav scents to date are royal oud, grand soir and Layton..so you have an idea of my taste.

Happen to own all three. While all nice, of the three, Oudmazing for me would be the most versatile.

Roja Aoud is pretty excellent. It’s a clean rose/Oud combo with a beautiful rosewood note. It’s fantastic, sweet, and just light enough to be worn most of the year.

Tom Ford Oud Wood is pretty versatile as in its very office friendly. I find most proper Oud centric fragrances to not be very versatile to be honest. They tend to be pretty potent.

Ralph Lauren Supreme Oud and Versace Noir I find are versatile.
Westernized enough to stay pleasant for the duration.

Agree with this. Try Cambodian Oud by Swedoft, fairly affordable and versatile.

i really enjoyed my sample of oud dream, but then got a chance to smell oudmazing and glad o waited. Oudmazing beats it imo.

I'm working through my sample of initio ofg, and reallly wanted to like this one..a lot of praise and bype around it, and it's great..but something about it makes me feel like it won't get much use
    .not as versatile.

Any of the Montale's mentioned might work, while also adding in a more complex range of prices but also among versatile oud options especially any edition of M7 (irrespective if re-edition or vintage), Habit Rouge EDP, Mystique Homme by Al Haramain, almost any of the TF ouds as well.

Oud for Greatness would be my pick from that list. Another one to check out is Oud Royal from the Armani Prive line. Very clean and wearable.

Of the ones you mentioned, Oudmazing is pretty versatile - but it really didn't "Wow" me. So I would be hard pressed to recommend it. I am not familiar enough with the other two to have an opinion.

Going off the menu however, these are probably the most versatile to me:

The Different Company - Oud for Love

Creed - Royal Oud (light on the "oud", but if you are looking for versatile, you will probably not be looking for a true oud-centric fragrance)

    Kerosene - R'Oud Elements

    Brückner - Aoud 1 & Aoud 3
    Current Summer Favorites:

    1. Xerjoff - Nio
    2. Tom Ford - Rive d’Ambre
    3. Dior - Homme Cologne 2013
    4. The Different Company - De Bachmakov
    5. Armani - Code Sport Athlete
    6. Montale - Aoud Legacy
    7. Dior - Homme Sport 2008
    8. by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
    9. Ermenegildo Zegna - Sicilian Mandarin
    10. Creed - Pure White Cologne

+1 Thameen Carved Oud. Stripped down oud and cardamom profile. The oud is very present and natural. Mass-appealing. Solid performance. Wearable almost year round; works in all but the dead of summer on my skin. Based on the favorites you listed, this would be in your wheelhouse I bet.

Royal Oud, even though there isn't much oud there,
    Also:
    Gucci Guilty Oud
TF Oud Wood and the Intense Version
    John Varvatos Oud
    Polo Supreme Oud

"clean wearable oud that's versatile" made me think of the Floris ouds.

Try sampling Floris' Leather Oud and Honey Oud. They both tend to get good reviews....even by people who aren't really oud lovers.

Will throw my weight behind Thameen Carved Oud. It IS easy to enjoy but it’s not exactly cheap.

Right now I’m enjoying some Sri Lankan oud that’s fresher and IMO even more versatile in Ensar’s Monsieur Oud.

Do you think the comparisons to TF Oud Wood are well founded?

So i went the sample route and received a 2ml of Carved oud...love at first sniff. My only issue is performance wasn't what I expected or hoped for based on all the reviews. Upon further research, i noticed my sample is an Eau de parfum, and online at lucky scent and other sellers i see an extrait version. lt appears they upgraded to an extrait and the ebay seller i purchased from was selling older formulation. That said, loved the scent and now considering just buying bottle since the extrait should only be better!

Agree, nicely balanced. These sort of ones are the ones I'd personally pull on if I was more into oud.
Dunhill Icon Absolute is also pretty neat westo-centric oud

A couple I would try is

    Creed Royal Oud
    Acqua di Parma Oud

Also co-signing Polo Oud and Oud Wood.

I may have missed it but I didn’t see MFK Oud mentioned in this thread. I find it quite tame and versatile with not too many notes that get in the way. The ‘Mood’ flankers are different and I can’t handle the oud in those.

Very much so. To tell any difference you would have to have them side by side.

Seems you have settled on Carved Oud, but you or others should check out offerings from Fragrance du Bois for "clean wearbale oud". Things like Oud Vert Intense, and London Oud are pretty clean.

So I need a little help here.. Can someone please clear this up as i have an email out to Thameen and Lucky scent on this topic. I received my full bottle today, the website both advertise it as a Extrait, however what i received today is the same as a my sample...Eau De Parfum. I've seen one Youtube reviewer mention they changed the concentration to Extrait, which matched the description and image on Lucky scent and Thameen webite.

There is nothing on the bottle...anyone own this scent and confirm what they see on their box or bottle of bottle? Thanks!
