The narrative being pushed is lazy and incomplete. That said, the good fortune I have within the space and body I occupy to be able to log on to BN and post my sotd and tally my monthly wears as an escape is absolutely not lost on me. It doesn't even feel quite right to do so, somehow, but here I am. There's just so much wrong with all of this.

I wore Dzongkha to bed last night so I've got the last vestiges of the drydown happening right now; haven't yet committed to an sotd but my head and heart are heavy so thanks for opening up a small conversation today, fellow USA BNers.

    Catching up ...
ComDiva, I am so impressed (but not surprised) by your son's professional accomplishment.
ExtremeK, your townhouse sounds like a happy new life experience.

It's that season when projects and weeding, plus usual cleaning and cooking take up much of my time and most of my energy, so if my posts thin out, it's just that I'm pooped out and not thinking about perfume. This afternoon I made myself apply something -- the SWF (sweet white floral) Le Labo Lys 41.

On this day 108 and 126 years ago, respectively, my mom and dad were born.

    Peace, people.

Wearing Hanami by Phlur today, uninspired to try any new samples.

I am shutting off my instagram for a few weeks. I can't take the images of the violence. A friend of mine had his store broken into during the riots in LA. Knowing his background, what he came from and how there wasn't even an ounce of privilege in it and nothing but many many failures and a lot of hard work, it sickens me to see what is happening. 2 wrongs do not make a right.

I think it's good to remember that we are creatures capable of complex thinking, that we can hold ideas and beliefs that seem in tension with each other, and THAT'S OK. I think complexity and nuance have been lost in the noise of easily-digestible soundbites. Sometimes it seems like there are thought purity tests that must be passed in order to have a conversation. Or to see someone as more than "other."

As Whitman said, "Do I contradict myself? / Very well then I contradict myself, / (I am large, I contain multitudes.)"

I am sickened over continuing injustice. I am dismayed over wanton violence and destruction. I am heartened by images of police officers and people of color taking a knee together, by Black Lives Matter protests turning into a cookout with police officers in a Wichita, KS park. I am heartsick about the 22 year old young man who went to a protest in downtown Omaha last night, only to never return home. I am angry that the bar owner who shot him was carrying a gun. I am relieved that that bar owner who shot him was carrying a gun and did not get beaten to death, when a crowd surrounded him, pushed his father to the ground, put the bar owner in a chokehold, and truly made it a question of life or death. I am broken-hearted, and I grieve for all of them.

I can't even post my SotD. It's in my "Currently Wearing."

Wearing Poivre 23 today. I forget just how much I love this one every time I go a while without wearing it. (The BN SOTD said it's been since 2017, which isn't true I just didn't log for a while, but it has been quite a bit of time).
    Loves:
Florals (especially rose, tuberose, cherry blossom, orange blossom, osmanthus, ylang ylang, immortelle, violet, jasmine, plum blossom, heliotrope, and iris)
Orientals (especially spicy, woody, and floral orientals)
    Boozy notes
    Chypres (especially with real oakmoss)
    Rich gourmands
    Animalic fragrances
    Great longevity and sillage
