    Default Arrived: Arden Men Sandalwood.

    Hi.
I like it a lot. Opening is super aromatic, intense and manly. Wonderful! My bottle is a 2002 tester, made in France.
It gets, for my nose, a liiiiittle to heavy on the lavender in the middle part, though it mellows a bit.
Overall a nice, aromatic, herbacious, woody barbershop'y fougère. Dry as a bone, though. Some bright fresh lemon and nèroli backbone would've made it perfect, IMO.
    Best,
    Martin

Is there any SW note in there?

Very clearly a case for corn flakes and classics

These old 50's American masculines were dry as a bone on purpose, since at that time, nen viewed sweetness as feminine (even with cocktail drinks)!

    Here's the bottle with cap

AfMS contains it, but it's part of a larger composition. This very much reminds me of Crown Perfumery Sumare (1925) in that it's midway between chypre and fougère, containing both labdanum, oakmoss, and some tonka, with some sandalwood throughout for "flavor" and a mega-dry "flattened" lavender to make it masculine by the socially-austere 50's American male standard. Wet-styled comb-over hair and square jaw sold separately.

Well....there's definately lavender, I can tell you that. And lavender. LOL. Albeit a masculine, woodsy one. Can't really figure out the SW in this.. There's either very little of it blended into scattered creamy iotas, or there's just enough of it drier than the las vegas air for me to detect it properly (if that made any sense).

Edit: oh, just saw ZC's answer on the SW. Spot on!

    Congratulations and enjoy!

Also enjoying this fragrance and owning the version with an outer presentation/appearance similar to your bottle and the one displayed in post 4.
Agreeing that this fragrance is even more or at least on an equal standing a barbershop fougere as much as rendering and building upon sandalwood notes-a versatile and (if not some rarer vintage) often inexpensive choice to complete a classic male fragrance selection.

Thanks, Ken! Yeah, I really think it has a barbershop vibe to it. I'd like to try the version that comes in a 175ml splash in the original bottle-style that was made up until sometime in the '90s, I think.
I once had a bottle similar to post #4, made in the US. As I recall, the lavender was not as strong as in the French-made bottle I just recieved?
Can you/anybody here recognize any of that?

Thank you for asking, only realizing now that the two bottle styles/types are from different countries, though looking very similar.

The one in picture 4 is identical to mine including the red box so therefore have actually not known until now that these two are different and also cannot tell which one has more and which less lavender, having not yet tested the French one (or even if so, have tested the French version too long ago, to sporadically and/or too little to remember).

Still hoping that more vintage fragrance hobbyist BN contributors can further tell the different versions apart, both as outer appearance and as more or less diverging notes.

Arden for Men used to be a full range and consisted of several scents. Sandalwood was the only one that survived.

Yeah, I know of two other "wood" frags - Citruswood and Oakwood. And a third one, but can't recall it. And some other colognes in strange bottles...
