    Default Tarry. Burnt. Leather.

I'm currently loving TF Oud Wood Intense, but find it a little...smooth. Does anyone have any recommendations for something a little rougher, perhaps, with stronger burnt notes? Encre Noir is too antiseptic, and Farenheit is too pre-combusted for my taste.

Gucci Guilty Absolute? I like Oud Wood Intense as well. I tried Tuscan Leather Intense too but found it a bit meh.

GGA is a nice suggestion. Its not as challenging as owi though. A brown leather brother.

Okay, dumb question: what makes it challenging? I think it's lovely.

Try Hyde. I find it very smoky, burnt, with atypical, almost animal flesh like leather. Or wait for areej le dore russian leather.

    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

^ This. LM is a great leather. Love the smokeyness, which to my nose comes across a lot different to the one found in L‘Air.

I didn‘t find any leather(/y scent) I‘ve tried challenging, btw, but that‘s probably just me. I seem to like these notes a lot, and in my experience, they all dry down very pleasantly.

Amouage Opus VII checks your requirement.
If you like or you can tolerate galbanum and cypriol/nagarmotha, give it a try.

The Andy Tauer leather scents would be good options.

For a cheapie that takes the Tom Ford leather molecules and gets really rough and dirty with 'em, check out Ungaro III Oud (no real oud, just smoky, woody leather).

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I'm going to sample all listed over the next few months.

This genre is one of my favourites.

    Mona di Orio Cuir
Papillon Anubis (though longevity not amazing)
Etro Vetiver (much darker, to my nose, than Palais Jamais) - a fuller, darker take on vetiver than Encre Noire

    +1 Tauer Lonestar Memories
    +1 Hiram Green Hyde
+1 CdG Black (weightless but tarry+cumin+licorice)
Summer 2020 : Guerlain Vetiver; Penhaligon's Juniper Sling; Etro Gomma; Palais Jamais and Dianthus; Hermes Equipage Geranium; Aramis Tuscany; Caron Yatagan and Third Man; Knize Ten ; Parfums d'Empire Eau de Gloire and Corsica Furiosa; Anatole Lebreton L'Eau de Merzhin; Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta pour Homme

    My two favorite smoky scents.

Anubis from Papillon is beautiful with gasoline-like Jasmine and a nice incense/Amber drydown
Black no. 1 from House of Matriarch is an extremely sophisticated and dark herbal/Lavendar/smoke/cannabis/leather. In my estimation it’s much nicer than Black Afgano though I like that as well.

Not far from you is Meleg Perfumes.

I suggest his Birch Tar & Russian Leather (No 25) will scratch your itch plus you won't bump into someone else wearing it.

Otherwise big plus 1 for Hyde and Lonestar Memories.

OWI has a challenging animalic fake castoreum quality of the halitosis type and a medicinal oud bite. I love it, own it.
For burned tarry and aggressive im gonna say you should try

That, to me, is what you are describing looking for.

I LOVE T. Rex. Good call. You would have to be ok with some florals with your apocalypse, though. So as long as rose oxide and ylang don’t scare you off, this is a fantastic perfume.
