Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Our weather is identical to teadrop's so today's choice (while completely random) seems quite appropriate.

Yes, and I'd be running away very, very fast! Jean Nate us not my favorite scent, to say the least.

Amen, sister. The 4th was never my favorite holiday because I don't like fireworks, but I do miss the swimming pools and barbeques.

And now my state and the entire Southeast region has backslid so badly on CoVid cases that it feels like we went through that whole spring lockdown for nothing.

Congratulations on your 10-year BNaversary, PerfumedLady!

Sorry I've been MIA this past week. A routine surgery ended up with complications, but I'm happy to be home now. I'll spray something on later, right now nothing is calling to me.

foxbins, I had wondered where you were, and I was getting worried. I’m sorry to hear about the complications; I’m so glad you’re on the mend. XO

Happy Basenotes-iversary, (((PerfumedLady)))! I miss your regular presence and am always so happy when you pop in!

It’s a going to be a humid scorcher here today, much like Cook.bot’s temps, including the oppressive humidity. After the wonderful drier mountain climate of the Black Hills, I feel like I’m melting every time I go outside.

I wanted to wear white florals today, but I’ve toned them down just a bit due to the weather: I’m wearing the hot sun-appropriate Eau de Soleil Blanc. That salt note really lightens things up nicely.

    Hello, all,

We’re celebrating in our little social distanced circle, mostly because we have my boyfriend’s aging mother with us. she lost her husband , and my boyfriend’s, father, a little over a year ago, and we have tried to keep each other’s spirits up, especially with all the madness out there. Observing and celebrating holidays helps all three of us—and the food, the decor, the rituals, they’re are an important part of living. On a more personal note, I do not want feckless or hostile people to take away any joy that I can have the opportunity for, especially the joy of sharing a significant day with people I love.

So i’m going to spend the day going through our walls of record crates, and find some music, and set up our gear in the yard, and hopefully give the neighborhood a fun soundtrack for the afternoon. I’m not really a DJ,not like my boyfriend, but I can program a decent afternoon set with BF, and get out the grill so we can at least wave at the neighbors. All of this in lieu of the parade and our yearly block party, which is normally a big do. We never intended to become the de facto hosts of a big yearly thing, but, when we moved in a fe years back, I don’t think the neighbors knew what to make of us, because we are City People. There are a few local teenagers, here and there, who put a little color in their hair, but they’re not like us. I think we’re now officially the town weirdoes. We used to joke around about it, especially after we did the new neighbor thing, and brought people baked treats to introduce ourselves, and our dog. Then I found out that one of our neighbors referred to me as Morticia behind my back. (I don’t even wear that much black, unless it’s winter, although I have long black hair and very pale skin and a penchant for eyeliner, but our town is textbook southern conservative). We didn’t want our neighbors to be alienated or afraid of us, because we’re pretty nice people. We threw giant parties and theme nights for years, so we hosted a block party. It grew into a fairly big thing, more like a neighborhood party. For obvious reasons, we can’t do it this year.

I am still going to do my face like I always would (I have some new colors I want to play with anyway), but. no colored hair extensions this year. I normally, or normally these days, go into the office on Saturday, but with the holiday, my boss said she’d give me a vacation day, on the one day that I have been actually working. So I get paid to laze around and watch the TV, which is getting a little too easy. I need an indoor activity. I’m not in the crafting mood today. So maybe writing some perfume reviews?

Wow, I just realized that this post is really long. I drank even more coffee than usual today, and I must be wired. .I need to put down this phone, and do some laundry and housework, which was the original reason for the extra coffee. This place (Basenotes) is kind of dangerous. I could procrastinate here all day. And I find myself wanting to spend a lot more money on perfume, which I have to be careful about, since I am basically on part-time pay, until our office reopens, and there is no telling when that will happen.

So—getting on topic now—I was trying to think of a holiday appropriate perfume. I thought about colors (Red is really easy. Rose!). Then, I thought, American perfume house. I am ride-or-die about Estée Lauder, and I have been on a Beyind Paradise kick lately, so that’s how I’m starting the day. This evening, I’ll either switch to Azurée (I just got a new bottle of the recent version, and I love it. It smells great, with more fizzy jasmine (always a good thing in my book), and it will help me save my precious vintage. Or I can go with something red, and pick out a brilliant red rose.

    Time for more coffee!
