    Thumbs up Re: SOTD: Friday, 10th July, 2020

    Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

    Wearing Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan for the Southern Sync. I need to finish up this decant so I'll stop daydreaming about spending $300 on a fragrance that lasts exactly 15 minutes.

    I'd like to encourage everyone who has even a passing interest in Dior to watch this enchanting 10-minute film about their upcoming autumn/winter collection. If this is the kind of creativity that happens when you can't put on a runway show, I say abolish them permanently forthwith.

    I suppose it's already Friday, although I'm just now retiring to bed. I have my audiobook cued up, my PJs on, and Little Buddy (our dog) is in position. He had a big day today; we took him to the groomer to have his nails trimmed, because he was clicking and sliding around on the hardwoods. I'm trying to talk my boyfriend into doing his claws ourselves, but he's not too keen on the idea, so I'm not pushing it. I pick my battles, and this one isn't worth it. I don't mind the five bucks, but we have to drive about 20 minues to get it done.

    Despite the heat, I want something dense and comforting for bedtime, so I have my new tester bottle of Ambra di Luna is at the ready. I got it for a great price, so I figured, why not, despite it being summer, when I pack away my ambers. This is a cool-weather beauty, but it's also a powder bomb, with a ton of heliotrope woven into the labdanum. It's kind of like a less leathery Amber Flash, with jasmine instead of rose. Not much vanilla either. I wear my darling Shalimar all year, in any weather, so I guess I shouldn't banish Ambra di Luna to the winter ghetto. I'm loving Ramon Monegal more, as I spend time with the perfumes. At least half the house is covetable (I have Cuirelle on the purchase list for this fall, and maybe Mon Cuir, too. I also love Entre Naranjos), and I am crazy about the presentation and bottles. My practical side knows that presentation doesn't affect the perfume, but it's part of the experience. These bottles are thick glass, and they close shut with a very satisfying click. I feel pampered, and a little decadent.

    Cook.bot, thanks for the clip

    Hope all those suffering with extreme heat get some respite soon. It sounds horrendous

    Regarding Serge Noire - I am definitely with ExtremeK and cazaubon. But wouldn't it be boring if we all liked the same thing ?.

    Unable to come up with anything for today's synch so went with the usual random selection. Neil Morris - Chasing Autumn.

    Good morning.

    cazaubon, 43°???!!! Yikes. And a chilly cyberhug. It's in the mere 30s here on the south shore of Lake Erie. (side note: my mnenomic for C temps, which I had to learn at last when I went overseas is:
    20 = 68, and 30 = 86, a convenient transposition of digits and close enough for jazz. 40 = hot!

    Air quality alert continues. I may get on my bike today, but avoid my usual ride which is downhill into University Circle or even as far as the lake, and of course, means a corresponding uphill to get home. Rather, I'll pedal around the neighborhood. Cleveland Heights has a neighborhood of mansions and tall trees that would make for a pleasant ride. No fitness goal, just a little pleasure.

    Now, the sync. . . the South? I had to go to my Box of Too Many Samples and rummage around.
    Jovan Island Gardenia it is.
    What do insomniac perfumers do to fall asleep? They count chypres!
