Default Derby vs. New York Intense

I have gotten rid of the redundancy and many "just likes" in the past months and now trying to keep it this way, I'm torn between NY Intense & Derby, if I wanted to review them I wouldn't describe them in any similar manner but the feeling I get from them is the same, upper-class modern take on classic masculines with the old school Guerlain DNA. If you are experienced user of any of the two tell your journey and discoveries. I want it as my combed-back hair grey suit scent.

    Light grey or charcoal grey?

For the light gray look, sure Derby is fine. The base is reliable, so you go in confidence.

    Completely inoffensive.

Did you want to be assertive? If so, we might need a re-think.

Own and love both but prefer Derby as I feel Derby is a classier fragrance. Nevertheless, can't lose with either .

Both are wonderful and essential, among the very best classic masculines. No point in even trying to choose.

If, for reasons that are hard to understand, one had to toss one, and at the same time always wear a light grey jacket, somehow NY intense feels more appropriate for the color (which is more summery and lighter). But if I had to choose one (without the color restriction), I'd go for Derby, which is even more classical to me.

Btw, I have not even voted, the choice seems so hard...

I never got along well with the current Derby (vtg. is another story), so New York Intense.

I enjoy both but would also have to go with Derby if I could choose only one. Ironically, I would probably wear New York more frequently, however.

I find NYI more versatile, better-performing, and more enjoyable than current Derby. I actually made the same decision you are contemplating recently. I didn’t find the two all that similar when I acquired Derby a few months back, but it became apparent rather quickly that they were both occupying the same place in my modest collection. If I wanted to keep more bottles, I’d keep both just to have them, because they are equally great.

    Derby it is.

    Equipage would also work.

Aloof. Wow. Like hard to get? To build tension? Refined and reserved. Every hair in place, and not to be ruffled. Often looking up into the distance with an air of dignified wistfulness. That sounds killer. Almost cruel. Good luck!

    I like them both equally

Is the new Derby still housed in that half-timbered bottle? That may be a deal-breaker as for some reason I hate them.

    Derby.

Both are great, but Derby is simply the more distinctive scent, and I feel that it is a bit less traditional than the style of NYI. That seems to fit the aesthetic you're going for.

    My goodness!

    Is this actually comparable?

I think so. Vintage Derby and NYI definitely share some common ground. (The resemblance is less strong between the Wasser-era Derby and NYI.)

Both are excellent. My own preference is NEW YORK INTENSE.

But what I know of your personality from posts here, DERBY is probably the better choice for you.

Both are fairly conservative, dressy masculine scents, but DERBY has a little more "edge" to it with the leather. (And I know you are a big leather fan.)

It's not that I think NY INTENSE is very "main stream" but it's more polished and smooth than DERBY. I'm sure you could rock either all shined up in your gray suit, but I think DERBY may work better for you.
