Talking 2021 SFP International Perfumer Competition

    Hello everyone!

The theme for the 2021 SFP competition have been released!

    Ylang Ylang

Anyone under the age of 35 is welcome to enter a submission, as long as it is a fragrance that is not currently being sold in any market.
The theme is very open this year, so the creative possibilities are endless!

I have attached a link to the rules below. Entries must be submitted by January 29th, 2021.

Mail them to the secretary at this address:
    Société Française des Parfumeurs
36 Rue du Parc de Clagny
    78000 Versailles

35 year age limit?? Age discrimination in perfume? I didn't know perfume was like being in special forces... you have to be young so you don't have a heart attack??

Reminds me of the 70s movie "Logan's Run"... they killed everyone over 30. And yes, I'm 50

That’s pretty lame. We have our own competition here regardless of age!

We once had fake IDs to buy booze. Remember? So now, what you’re telling me is, once again I’m going to have to go out and get a fake ID just so I can.... ?

(paraphrased and stolen from Kathleen Madigan’s netflix stand up routine called “Bothering Jesus,” which I highly recommend btw)

Haha fake ID to be younger... that's so vain! But the choice of 35 is just strange. My point is, I can totally understand a kid's contest or a teen-only contest, no problem. But 35 is pushing middle age. So a 5 year old can compete against a 35 year old perfumer, but not a 60 year old?? I don't get that logic.

Quentin Bisch can compete against a toddler, but I can't compete against Quentin Bisch...

But I don't mean to beat up Marlaney, I thank you for submitting it!! It's cool that you brought this up, it's always cool to see what contests are out there.

Obviously you fail to realize the level of skill gained between 35 and 36.

What?? That sounds amazing!!!! Don't forget a touch of chamomile in the background... that's so German.

Actually, I tried to make a Berlin Metro fragrance before, but I think you understand how that came out, db...

I like gunpowder notes in fragrances. I haven’t attempted to make it myself, though. Any suggestions or is it too secret?

You must ask DSiL. The use of fire, brimstone and sulfurous compounds runs in the family. 😈

DSiL, Sorry about that. I was thinking gunpowder from Miami 1985, but it was gun metal.

bsouthers, I am brand new to this hobby, only in infantile stages of trying to distinguish musk ACs from one another. And at my rate of progress you can assume I will never know how to make gunpowder or gun metal scents.

A workaround would be to make a gunpowder tea accord first.
