Default Eternity Purple Orchid / Black Orchid

I got to sample this the same day of the ill-fated 212 sampling at
the Sephora in Downtown Disney in Orange County. :)

I rather liked it, and I had hoped my mom would like it -- we were
there to get her something for her birthday -- but she didn't care
for it. Upon seeing the bottle and smelling the fragrance, I was
again reminded heavily of "Black Orchid" like I was when I first
    smelled the Lolita Lempicka stuff.

I'm a comic book nut, and one of my favorite graphic novels to come
out in the past several years is "Black Orchid." It was an adult-
oriented "reimagination" of a rather minor and little-known costumed
female superhero, written by Neil Gaiman. Black Orchid is a hybrid
of human and orchid with the ability to control minds by use of
pheromones. When the original Orchid is killed during an undercover
investigation, a new Orchid awakens in the lab of her creator and
finds herself the target of an industrialist (namely, Lex Luthor of
the "Superman" comics) who wants to harness her powers for his own
use. It's a pretty good read, and the fully-painted artwork is
gorgeous...lots of rich colors and lush detail.

There was later an ongoing series where the Orchid encountered a new
enemy named Black Annis who left a telltale scent of aniseseed
    everywhere she went.

Scentaholics might find "Black Orchid" enjoyable. Check it out
    sometime! ;-)

The print ads are hitting full force now, and has anyone else seen
the new campaign for Calvin Klein's limited edition of Eternity
    Purple Orchid?

Both side of the ad are a very deep purple, and the bottle is
    literally DRIPPING with the stuff!!!

Reminds me of the "drop" of JOOP! on the guys arm for the Joop!
    campaign.

This "dripping effect" however isn't so "strategically" placed...
it's almost as if the stuff literally is dripping from the top of
    bottle.

Not something you'd expect Calvin to do in CONCEPT, but seeing the
ad... it's without a doubt Calvin Klein.

I for one am very impressed with it. ESPECIALLY for really doing
    something different with the original.

    Thumbs up on this one!

Did she say what she didn't like about Purple Orchid?

    Hey there Jim:

I'm in San Francisco, but I'm originally from the St. Louis, MO area
(Illinois side of the river, though). I was vacationing with my
parents in Orange County the last week of January. :)

She didn't but if I know my mother, it was probably because it was
too floral for her. She tends to like woody/spicy or clean, floral
scents (like Knowing, Noa, and Cashmere Mist) over sweet florals
(like Chloe or even White Linen). She doesn't care for anything
heavily oriental (like Opium or Samsara; Nu was also too much for
    her).

It also might have been too strong or heavy for her. She has COPD
and some other respiratory ailments that make picking out a new scent
difficult for her. It's one reason why I have to be careful about
what I wear around her because she's very sensitive to smells. It
sucks for her because she always loved perfumes, but now her choices
since she became ill are somewhat limited. We had to make a quick
runthrough at Sephora because the place -- like any fragrance counter
at any department store -- absolutely reeks.

I love that Purple Orchid bottle, though! I'm hoping the Ralph
Lauren Purple Label bottle is that shade.
