Reviews of Eau Sento

Beautiful, literal sandalwood. Starts off like sawdust, spiced with a pinch of cumin and grounded with dusty oak or maybe rosewood. Develops a whiff of coconut in the sillage, hinting at both Australian sandalwood and rum. There's something that evokes lemon, possibly verbena, or maybe even a touch of vetiver in the background adding a hint of green. But all of these background elements support the "opulent sawdust" smell of the sandalwood, which is the main focus.

It's worth noting that, because this is Olivia Giocobetti's brand, I was expecting something thin and watercolored, but Eau Sento is actually quite strident. It's also worth noting that Mysore sandalwood famously smells buttery, but there is no butter here - this really does smell more like a tree or a place than a perfume.

This has me thinking about how niche wood scents have changed over the years. Nowadays, they almost always focus on oud or cade, and pretty much always smell burnt or rubbery. It's nice to smell a wood perfume that just smells like trees and lumber. I can see how some may find this a bit too literal (I definitely feel like I'm wearing the distinct smell of a lumberyard), but I think it's beautiful.

Starts off with a very familiar scent of wood that reminds me of wood and crispy leaves. It's hard to describe it's nostalgia. It evokes the smell of shops with wood crafts or museums or cork board. This would be a good alternative to Cypres Musc but for Fall and Winter weather. Really intriguing. I expect others would find it recognizable as well. The sillage is good and the longevity is what you would expect of most fragrances. This scent is VERY soothing. The dry down is gorgeous.

A beautiful woody fragrance that manages to capture the the aroma of a wet forest - the wood notes are vibrant and joined by subtle mossy notes. Although largely linear, I pick up on some mildly spicy clove-like notes that emerge after an hour or so. Longevity is not so great with L'Eau Sento, but it's not poor enough for that to detract from the quality of the perfume.

Thumbs UP.
