Reviews of Eau de Cartier : Essence de Bois

Smells nice, but needs to be marketed as a women's fragrance, not unisex, and certainly not male.

Essence de Bois opens up smelling about the same as the original Eau de Cartier, before it turns into a rosey smelling aroma, that is really just a creamy, jammy violet, backed with a vanilla. Eventually it becomes less feminine and more unisex, but very hard to smell anything after 30 minutes. I get a little woods and a light patchouli.

This one is quite unlike what I’ve been used to in the early Eau de Cartier fragrance realm (now, there are so many flankers out there that also “break the mold”).

Essence de Bois is a decidedly feminine light floral scent that lacks the tangy punch of Eau de Cartier original and the Concentree forms; the violet in this scent lean it in that direction too far for my tastes, but it may work for some men.

This fragrance was immediately familiar, but it took me a while to place it...

Unfortunately for Cartier, there is a line of mini soaps, shampoos, and lotions supplied by hotels with a scent nearly identical to the accord at the heart of this fragrance.

I tried this first on fabric, where it seemed to contain only the violet note. It did a lot better on my skin, where it became a little more complex, with some depth and a vague spiciness. (I see that there are no spices in the note-pyramid, but still...) This fragrance is pretty weak and the dry-down, while pleasant and vaguely woodsy, is very faint on my skin.

A pretty fragrance, and not too sweet. It's a stretch to call it unisex, though. I don't imagine many men wanting to wear this. I certainly don't.

Pretty, floral, soft.
Citrus & violet notes are evident.
Moderately sweet, certainly aimed at the female market.
OK -- essence de BOIS. So, where's the wood? Not to found.
Marks deducted for misleading name.

Men, please do NOT wear this. I don't care that this is labeled as unisex. You will smell like a woman. You will not be edgy or cool, or avante garde. You will simply smell like a woman.

Women, this is a great scent. Its very powdery and almost hypnotizing. This is the type of scent i would want a woman to wear in the bedroom, in a sexy negligee...

Neutral only because its aggravating its listed as unisex. If it was purely listed as womens, it woman be a thumbs up.

Opens with violet leaf slaping your face, then joins the woody notes (oud? really?) that turns it into a fresh woody scent. Lasting power is weak, around 3~4 hours. The solution? About 10 sprays and you're set with great projection, big sillage and nice lasting power. That's nothing actually unique scent but deserves at least one try.
