Reviews of Azzaro pour Homme Intense (new)

Stardate 20191227:

I am a big fan of Azzaro PH. I like it in all formulations. So when I saw this I assumed it would be a more concentrated version of APH.
But it is not exactly that. There is a a modern twist to it - Cinnamon and that kills it for me. Now I must say that they have used cinnamon very well, light and deft while maintaining the original APH character. Unfortunately, the Cinnamon note is a killer for me , both in fragrances and in desserts.
Pass for me but if cinnamon is not your kryptonite give it a try.

Cinnamon and later on an infusion of a boozy Cognac impression make a nice introduction in the opening blast, and is miles apart form the original Azzaro pour Homme; although shadows of the original seems to echo in the development of this creation by adding a slightly dark and crisp undertone at times. This is particularly obvious in the presence of an added earthiness due to an underlying vetiver accord. The Cognac is not exactly XO level, but nicely smooth and it his the Cognac aroma quite well.

The base enhances the sweet side courtesy of a soft vanilla that is rather prominent, whilst ever being overly intrusive or cloying. At times whiffs of an ambroxan-style impression can also be detected.

I get moderate sillage, adequate projection and eight hours of longevity on my skin, although close to the latter towards the end.

An autumnal gourmand of some good qualities, which is well-made and quite nice initially, but, unfortunately, it turns somewhat generic and predictable in the second half of its development. Overall 2.75/5.

The "brandy" note here is the one of the better booze notes I've encountered in a designer fragrance, very rich and well-rounded. It opens the fragrance with some cinnamon and benzoin, suggesting a proper gourmand.

You'll be surprised when it makes its appearance, but there's actually the ghost of a fougere in here, and that fougere is vintage Azzaro pour Homme, which emerges from a holiday-tinged boozy-gourmandy haze like the Ghost of Christmas Past.

As such, this fragrance offers a collision of old-school masculine and new-school gourmand, and it's a surprisingly smart combination. They don't compete against one another as much as they compliment the other.

A good option for autumnal and winter days, especially around the holidays.

If you love cinnamon in your fragrances done in a manly way, this is a must. APHI features more of an autumn kind of cinnamon rather than a sweet cinnamon like One Million, which makes this juice a lot more masculine. The whiskey/brandy note in Azzaro PH Intense ensures it's one bad ass fragrance and clearly a man's cologne. It's absolutely perfect for a breezy autumn day just when the foliage on the tops of trees is starting to colorize the hillside, the morning air gets a little chilly, and of course pumpkin spice, apple orchards, football and Sam Adams Octoberfest. Ahh, nothing like the autumn season in this part of the world. If you love the unforgettable aroma of a New England autumn morning while wearing original Azzaro PH, I guarantee you'll love this spicy, boozy, fougere.

However, just one warning, expect the wife or girlfriend to want to snuggle and cuddle when you spray on this bad boy. It's such as warm, comforting and masculine fragrance she'll love it on you.

It's Azzaro, but with the bite of cinnamon and something bitter underneath that isn't listed and I can't quite discern. Nice enough, but another unnecessary flanker of the far better original. The best flanker is L'Eau IMO. This is just ok. Additionally, this is far from "intense", as it loses power very fast. A kind neutral.

What a beautiful "evil" of the scent. When I say this, I think positively of course.

Sharp and bitter, warm in a strange but also cold way. Its lips never smile, but the eyes do.

Fougere par excellence. There's a touch of the original here but Intense is much darker, bit less wearable, or to be precise, less versatile. For the colder months and the evening.

Cinnamon in a way I haven't encountered yet, all that covered with brandy. Vetiver is strong, amber is not silent and tonka whispers loudly. All the notes are quite well intertwined in conversation how there's still hope for the better times, regardless of all that mainstream, teenage frags we're bombarded with lately.

The Azzaro PH Intense will not, however, push the original from its throne. They are complementary. The original is a whole year rounder, all occasions fragrance, while the Intense version is, in my opinion, strictly for fall and winter, evenings and go outs.

A gentleman and a scoundrel at the same time. Teenagers and weak blooded/minded will avoid this one. Too much character, integrity, honour and strength about this one.

Originality 7/10
Scent 9/10
Longevity 9/10
Projection 9/10
