Reviews of Clash : Chlorophyll Gardenia

There's a beautiful creamy, buttery ylang perfume here, unfortunately paired with cheap green synthetics ripped straight from the 90's. So the result is a rather bad melon/calone smell detracting from a beautiful, rich tropical floral. Hours in, the greens mercifully fade to a quiet hum of lily in the background, at which point this is quite beautiful.

There's an engineering joke: Turn the bug into a feature. Meaning that if your designing something and it has a problem you can't fix, just pretend you did it on purpose and push it as a selling point. Chlorophyll Gardenia feels like the perfume version of this. There's a gorgeous tropical ylang perfume here being ruined by trashy synthetic greens, but instead of fixing it, they're just pretending the clashing greens are a selling point (rolls eyes).

l get a delightful dose of rhubarb in the opening, of the raw, unsweetened kind. lt makes me smile, as it's a relatively unusual note in perfumery, & always reminds me of the rhubarb my dad used to grow in the garden when l was a child. lt's supported here by a crisp, green note of galbanum, which doesn't become too sharp or strident as it sometimes does on my skin. There's spearmint here too, & a faint rubber/vinyl note, & then twenty minutes in l begin to detect a creamy gardenia beneath it all. After an hour the gardenia takes centre stage, & it's wonderfully realistic, projecting very nicely. A little later, the gardenia is joined by an ozonic/marine note, & three hours in there's a sweeter fruity aspect. Four hours in it settles very close to the skin, but it's still going as a soft, creamy floral with white musk after seven hours.

l dabbed this rather than spraying, as l wasn't sure if l'd like it. l'll need to try spraying it to see if that improves the performance, but l think this would be a lovely fragrance for spring or early summer. Rather than clashing, l think these notes work very well together, the green notes adding a cooling effect to what can sometimes be a rather cloying floral when the heat is on. Thumbs up!

I really love this, it's green, then floral, then ozonic, then a merger, then individual notes again. It is a clash, but the notes work so, so well together!
The crisp green notes include a bit of spearmint and some glorious galbanum. The Gardenia is equally prominent, followed by an ozonic high.

It starts off with bitter green notes and pleasant flowers. That bitterness is hard for me to appreciate and it doesn’t go away for a few hours. The late drydown loses the bitter note and becomes more pleasant. Just more of a soft, green scent at that point.

My wife loves it, says it reminds her of a spa scent. That being said, I don’t think it’s necessarily a women’s or men’s scent exclusively. Chlorophyll Gardenia is unisex because it feels more like a scent you’d get from Demeter, where they are reproducing a scent that already exists outside of perfumery. It feels very natural.

Projection is just average but I found it had good longevity, about 6-7 hours.
