    Mid: myrrh, chamomile, pimento leaf
    Base: frankincense, lavender, cedar, sandalwood

Five stars it has been and five stars it remains. This is a very enjoyable, dryly austere scent. It has incense and lavender on a woody framework. There is a good basil-herbal aromatic opening which goes well with the lemon and citrus opening. Wood makes an appearance almost immediately, before the incense. Then there is heady myrrh with peppery pimento leaf. This is followed by a green, pine-y frankincense with dry herbal lavender. The wood reappears, mostly sandalwood. The dry-down is cool and airy, it suggests smoke and the old stones of a cathedral. As I said, this is an austere scent, and I appreciate that. It is exotic but not heavy, not the usual rich oriental style. In fact, it is bone-dry! It suits me very well. Special commendation for combining frankincense with lavender. A superb duo, and the lavender gives this a British flair.

While my nose is not so discerning, I could not agree with you more, Ody. F&M is always rewarding. Dry, but not too dry. Enveloping, but softly. Far west of Zagorsk. To be sure, my favourite Czech & Speake. Now I would mention another F&M fragrance, another of my favourites, this one warmer, richer, and even more becalming: Regina Harris Frankincense-Myrrh-Rose Maroc (a perfume oil). While I like the idea of rose, rose I can rarely wear. But with F-M-R, I can close my eyes and feel lost in a sacred garden. Each time I inhale it, I exhale more deeply.

That is so interesting and I really appreciate that suggestion. I've long been in search of a rose scent I could commit to -- that sounds like something I should check out.
Glad to hear that you like the C&S scent. The incense sticks in that fragrance are awesome!

i like to wear F&M by C&S in the hottest driest season here where i live, where the dryness of the climate is even drier than F&M

This is one of my favourite scents. Dry, beautifully balanced, expertly blended, haunting and satisfying.
Good herbal and pepper notes start. They pick up with dusky chamomile, which adds a hay-like note and works well with the incense.
The hint of lavender is dry, herbaceous and brilliant with the frankincense.
The scent remains peppery dry throughout. Hints of sandalwood and perfumed cedar.
All the notes are individually lovely, and they combine together so well!

I always enjoy wearing this delightful woody/incense scent. Dry as a bone, hints of dusky clary sage, frankincense & myrrh with a camphor-like lavender note. Superb!

What could be more seasonal than this superb scent? Watch for comments tomorrow.

Citrus and herbs (especially clary sage) lead to a very dry heart. Dusky, sandy and a bit smoky. Beautiful incense with resinous lavender -- a great combination! I love this scent.
