Congratu-bloody-lations on the fiercest and most hard assed BMM brackets/races to date, mate !! ~ It's gonna be bloody carnage ! ... This year's is without a doubt the most well-thought-out and vicious "placements", and therefore helluva difficult predictions/races of them all so far. You have totally excelled yourself (yourselves ??). Anyways, congrats to all involved for what will undoubtedly be a superfierce MM showdown !
("Predictions" has already proven a killer ! ;o)
    Thanx again !!!

Thanks D. Looking forward to the trip!

Congrat's to both of you two also. It looks as if you've found the right person - good for you. Ray & I celebrate 12 years together, this weekend. When you've got real love, time flies.

Hi Daniel, did you receive my bracket?
I sent it to the email(msn)adress listed on your website.
All the best and a big fat cheers!

I think some of the veteran reviewers should give it a second try. Looking forward to next weeks results sir!
  9. Thanks Daniel, you're a champ! Its been a good one so far, and the day is still in its infancy! Cheers again mate!

Glad you'll be trying it, Daniel! I think you'll like it. As a lover of Havana, you're not one to shy away from a distinctive scent, and THAT it most certainly is! It's one of those scents that is just plain impressive. You'll have to let everybody know what you think.

Dang. You're making me itch to wear the stuff. Looks like I'll need to line up some special occasion so I can wear it in good conscience! No problem - fall is here, and it's a good one for fall.

I was going to ask you what's been up, but I may just get back on twitter and catch up.

BMM11 Behind The Scenes: Wheeling and Dealing

by bluesoul on 22nd January 2011 at 02:59 AM
Many Basenoters enjoy Basenotes March Madness, but itís something just this side of an obsession for me as commissioner of the thing. Suffice it to say that I started preliminary work on BMM12 (March 1 2012) in December 2010. I was simultaneously working on BMM11 and in my first message on the topic to Grant Osborne, owner of, I asked about the possibility of a prize this year. That was back on 12/15, but good things come to those who wait, and BMM11 officially has a prize

BMM11 Behind The Scenes: Unexpected Successes

by bluesoul on 15th January 2011 at 05:14 AM
So the first phase of the BMM voting site has done really well in itís first two weeks, with 106 different users, 2157 votes and 501 different fragrances in the running at the time of this writing. Iíve gotta say, I wasnít sure what to expect but I wasnít expecting that kind of response so early. I took the time to get the most recent numbers, available here, and thereís a good mix towards the top. I havenít begun any coding on the second half of the site, the prediction contest, I suspect

BMM11 Behind The Scenes: Best Laid Plans

by bluesoul on 10th December 2010 at 07:06 AM
I began preliminary work for Basenotes March Madness 2011 today, a paper sketch that I always seem to need to do before designing a website or a database. I'll be designing both in this case, but the core of the game will of course be on Basenotes. The site I'm building will host the nomination and voting process to select what fragrances make the cut, and will also manage the bracket challenge, where users attempt to predict the outcome of each game. At the end of a day's games, I simply give

Dirty English: Me Versus The World

by bluesoul on 9th October 2009 at 02:04 AM
It was fairly early into my exploration of fragrance that I realized I particularly enjoyed a few notes, more than others. At the top of the list was cedar, and Iíve come to enjoy it in all itís shades and nuances. Perfumery mainly uses two species, the Virginia Cedar, which is the sharp, resinous, woody scent that most people associate with hamster bedding or pencil shavings. Thereís also Atlas Cedar, which is a more distinguished, camphorous smell, beautiful in itís own right for entirely

Thierry Mugler A*Men - The Ten Ton Pacifist

by bluesoul on 23rd June 2009 at 08:02 PM
Recently on Basenotes I ran the first-ever Basenotes March Madness, and one of the criteria for a fragrance being in the running was to have the most reviews. A*Men led the pack by a huge margin, but itís also probably the most divisive fragrance mentioned on the boards. Itís very polarizing, you either love it or hate it. Iím firmly ensconced in the ďlove itĒ group.

The bottle comes a few ways, either the black rubber bottle with blue star, or the metal bottle which is refillable at
