I noticed you quoted my review of Pino Silvestre. I appreciate your clarification regarding the "Scots Pine" - I didn't know that. However, unless you were addressing my capitalization of the second word in the name, silvestris, my comment stands as true. The Wikipedia article on this particular pine goes on to state that this type of evergreen was commonly used as the Christmas tree here in the states. I wonder if it is used as such in Scotland, too? Cheers.

I don't recall exactly what I said. However it is true that the specific epithet of a botanical name, in this case, sylvestris, is not capitalized, only the genus name, i.e. Pinus. Also, both are either written in italics or are under-lined. Ciao, Breck [P.S. Your inbox for private messages appears to be full and hence no new private messages can be sent to you].

I've just read your review posted for Polo Sport and I can't help wondering if you were actually reviewing Polo Blue. You describe an opening of calone and cucumber, which are the top notes of Polo Blue. By contrast, Polo Sport opens with a sharp burst of pineapple, seaweed, lavender and mint - a much zestier fragrance that smells more like soap than a typical aquatic.

I left a second comment to your blog post "Intellectual Dishonesty and Creed." Have you had a chance to moderate the comment and allow it to post? I think it answers some of the questions you posed in your original post...
  4. Thanks Dutch. It seems RL is only interested in cheap money makers disguised as designer perfume. It's a shame.

Couldn´t agree more with the commercial money grab that is the Polo Big Pony line.
  6. Thank you for an outstanding piece on Grey Flannel.

Intellectual Dishonesty and Creed - What's it Like to be Royal?

by MOONB on 31st March 2011 at 11:26 AM

The house of Creed isn’t fooling anyone. That’s the word on the street.

However, there’s a strain of logic that overshadows the Creed skeptics’ core argument that is deeply and irrevocably flawed. The logic in question is as follows:

[B]Since Creed refuses to provide evidence in the form of vintage bottles, sales receipts, and royal warrants explicitly commissioning perfumes since the days of King George III and onward, one can safely conclude

Kouros - Classic Perfumery Lives On

by MOONB on 25th March 2011 at 11:01 PM

In the summer of 2004 I visited the mountain city of Urbino in the Umbrian region of Italy. I've traveled quite a bit in my relatively short stint here on earth, but that trip wasn't just any old trip - it was one of those perfect sojourns, a journey of a lifetime. I'll never forget the incredibly sensuous walks I took through the city, or the way Urbino's sun-kissed splendor glowed on golden July days. As I strolled through the Porta Valbona and up Via

Azzaro Acteur: Nearly Time to Wear a Classic.

by MOONB on 18th September 2010 at 05:10 PM

With September growing long in the tooth, and October on the horizon, I'm eyeing my recently-procured bottle of Azzaro's discontinued masterpiece, Acteur. Very soon it will be time to use this beautiful little gem of a men's fragrance, and revel in its unbelievable execution of incense, tobacco, woodsy cedars and dry florals, all capped with an amazing red apple top note that pervades through the entire body of the scent.

Why the suits

Lomani Pour Homme Is The Original Cool Water

by MOONB on 1st August 2010 at 03:07 PM

Let me challenge the popular assertion that Green Irish Tweed and Cool Water are blood relatives by pointing out that Lomani Pour Homme was released in 1987, one year before Cool Water, and shares far more notes in common with the Davidoff release than the Creed. Let's take a look at the notes pyramids. I've highlighted in red the 5 notes that link Lomani and Cool Water.

Sung: The UnSung Hero of Floral Perfumes

by MOONB on 5th July 2010 at 03:27 PM

I have been on the market for a good perfume since May. Having recently purchased seven legendary eau de toilettes for my wardrobe (Kouros, Yatagan, Pour Un Homme de Caron, Grey Flannel, Allure Homme, Coco, and Guerlain vetiver), I felt the only thing missing was a feminine floral, and had quite a lot of difficulty deciding which to get. May rapidly slipped into June, and my focus
