Chanel have unleashed a Lion

14th January, 2021

Chanel have launched their latest fragrance in the Exclusif Collection: Le Lion de Chanel.

The fragrance is described as a deep oriental inspired by Gabrielle Chanel's totem animal. Chanel say:

Certain coincidences have the power to forge destinies. For Gabrielle Chanel, the lion was one of them. The fifth sign of the Zodiac, the lion watched over her from the day she was born on August 19, 1883. Superstitious and fascinated by the stars, Gabrielle quickly considered the animal associated with her birth date as a source of luck.

Olivier Polge, Perfumer-Creator for the House of CHANEL, explains, “I was much more interested in the emblematic CHANEL lion than the animal,” devoting his creation to the vision CHANEL cultivates of the Lion. Wild and majestic, Gabrielle Chanel’s totem animal is the symbol of a power that chooses to protect rather than dominate. Olivier Polge endeavoured to transpose this radiant strength of character incarnated by the lion in scent.

Notes for the fragrance include lemon, bergamot, ambery accord, cistus labdanum, vanilla from Madagascar, sandalwood and patchouli.

Le Lion de Chanel is available now as 75ml and 200ml Eau de Parfum

A quirky, worthwhile addition to the Le Exclusifs line. All Chanel fans should give it a sniff or two. Takes some getting used to. Sample a few times before forming a strong opinion.

Best in small doses, like one spray first time out, rarely more than two sprays. Best for out and about wear. Your host/hostess will not appreciate Le Lion dominating an intimate dinner party.

I fell madly in love with this one on first sniff. I plan on purchasing a bottle as soon as the mini Chanel sent me as a Christmas gift is gone. Problem is, I don't know when that will be because so little is needed to smell great that this little bottle is sure to last some time.
