    I think it could be the juxtaposition of citrus notes against those vintage style dry downs (even in modern formulations).

    Etruscan Water, Grimoire - these two have a faint resemblance.

    Annick Menardo is a great perfumer, but the brand matters a whole lot more than the perfumer. If Annick Menardo made an oriental for Malle in mid 2000s I would buy it at retail without even trying. ...

    I love Encens et Lavande from Serge Lutens. Gorgeous dry lavender paired to a wonderful airy incense note with a hint of smoke.

    I'd also suggest Honour Man by Amouage which is a fresh peppery...

    I don't like either Dylan Blue or Atlantique. Amara is a dry citrus over a woody-incense base. It's okay, I find that Acqua di Gio Profumo does the similar idea much better. The Aqua Marine flanker...

    This is an accurate assessment. I find it to be reasonably long-lasting, but it does wear close to skin. Also, the first 30 minutes to one hour it can be a bit sharp-synthetic but it smoothes out...

    The Bvlgari Aqua line is okay ... and so are the Versaces. The original Bvlgari Aqua is a nice fresh-dark-aquatic scent. The rest and the two Versaces are more of lighter...

    Montana Parfum d'Homme is drier overall and has that leather note. Havana goes in a sweet spicy tobacco rum direction. I like both, prefer Havana.

    Usually it's leather for me.

    For most notes that I like - I tend to get bored of monolithic compositions based on any one note. Best examples would be patchouli and vetiver, especially patchouli....

    I don't really find M to be that strong - though it's not weak either. Rather, it's perfectly calibrated.

    For example, The Moon is stronger both in terms of projection and duration on my skin.
