This is the way I feel about it as well. A classic EdC is a lot of the fun of fragrance with none of the commitment. There's no concern about 4 sprays vs 2 leading to choking out the girl on the...
My most worn fragrances, and it isn't close, are Florida Water and 4711. I went through approximately 25-30 ounces of Florida Water this past spring and summer.
Well, mine smells great too. It just doesn't seem to have the longevity or projection I expected from sampling. Hopefully it improves. I have no way of knowing what batches the samples were from. ...

Anyone who was saying their DHI 2020 is different have success with it "opening up" over a few weeks/months as was suggested? I opened my new bottle a week ago and am highly unimpressed...
I'm surprised people are able to narrow it down to one! Not to be outdone, I'll have to go with:
Guerlain Vetiver. Such a lively, sparkling opening of citrus, pepper, and vetiver.
I'm expecting it to be the 2020. It's from fragrancenet and they don't actually have a picture of the 100ml showing, so not totally sure whether I'll be getting the newest version or not.
Dior Homme Intense. Decided to spend the remainder of the pandemic encased in a comfy pillow of iris and chocolate.

Hopefully the pic attached. Tongue in cheek answer: obviously for me, my own wardrobe. That's what I bought after all.
-Decanted the remainder of 3 bottles into small bottles to pretend I don't have to include them anymore.
-Legitimately finished 2 bottles, though I have a backup for one.
Bought one new full...
Yes, it happens at all times, not when I spray it. I haven't worn it in about a week and I see that it has been leaking. Luckily it is slow enough that it evaporates before leaving the shoulder of...
- Bump with a couple questions instead of making a new thread -
I tried 3 of these (original, cologne, EDP) and loved the EDP so bought it about a year ago. However there is an issue with my...

Lately: Rive Gauche or Terre d'Hermes
Over the past 2 years: Thierry Mugler Cologne or Gucci PH 2
Overall, since finding basenotes: Live Jazz
Just don't OD on it. I spilled most of my 1ml sample on my arm and haven't been able to stand it since. For me, the tar note comes out more in higher doses. I had been enjoying it previously.
The mma fighter GSP isn't 20. Though I have to admit, if I were a cage fighter, I already know that I would be wearing Yatagan to all my fights.
about $310 on bottles and probably $150-$200 on samples over the last 3 years is the total cost of my fragrances.
Probably $150-$200 or so of it is from x-mas and b-day presents though, so I...
Gucci envy is warm, spicy/gingery, and sweet. NOT watery at all though. Give it a bit to settle, since the opening is kinda wacky. For those used to the anemic fragrances which are often sold...
"That cologne smells like an old man who isn't wearing cologne" -Father on Terre d'Hermes
"Did someone just do a load of laundry?" -Brother on Jean Marie Farina (he was serious)
I've personally had pretty good results with minoxidil (Rogaine). It isn't a miracle cure, but people keep telling me it looks like it is working (barber, parents, multiple friends) and I can see...
I usually just keep a couple different shower gels and use one with a scent which is the same general type as my SotD. I've been enjoying good bar soaps from a nearby health-food store lately.

I've been wearing Opium PH about 75% of the days since getting it for Christmas. So, it seems that i do!
Yatagan has a certain confident "F*** you" type of quality to it. I wore it to a bar a few years ago with a tight black t-shirt and an injury on my face that looked like someone hit me with a...
Hello! I'm resurrecting this thread because i am in a similar (but slightly different) situation. My mother wants a Burberry perfume for Christmas. She has been wearing the original for three or...
A lot of positivity about this one lately. I gotta try it again. I thought it was boring on paper.
As a side note, to be dropping that kind of money on a suit, i hope you are getting a very...
A female friend told me I smelled like baby powder when I was wearing Gendarme. She also said "girlie baby powder" a minute later though, so it might not be what you are after...
Maybe the one...
Go with one of the lighter ones (G2, either l'homme, etc). Eating sushi while wearing a dark, brooding oriental sounds dissonant to me. Match your scent with the mood you are trying to create.

I rarely tend to find soapy notes in fragrances, even in frags where others say it is all they can smell. The note in Mugler's cologne which I assume others refer to as "soap," for example, smells...
I have been waiting to use this one for a while. Feel free to steal it :)

ah, yes... here is an ebay listing of Burberry Classic with the "London" still intact on the bottle.
I'm unaffiliated with the ebay seller, of course.

Actually, I believe the "Original" was originally marketed under the name London. After a while, they took the "London" out and gave that name to the more recent release (Burberry London). Someone...
un Jardin en Mediteranee by Hermes - figgy, woodsy green
Mugler Cologne by Thierry Mugler - grassy, soapy green
Live Jazz by Yves Saint Laurant - transparent, minty green
Eau Parfumée au Thé...
Nope, but if you want a cheaper way for your bathroom to smell like vetiver you could try the River Soap Company's Vetiver soap. I bought a bar at a store called Whole Foods (I believe it is...
Random note about rogaine: it seems rogaine is fairly toxic to cats. I noticed this while looking for side effects since I recently started using the product myself.
Oh yea, it is also...
Well, I suppose for me that would be $50 including shipping for Terre d'Hermes. I'm a bargain hunter at heart, so I tend to seek out well regarded scents which don't force me to break open my piggy...
I'll add a vote for YSL l'homme (NOT pour homme, it is a different thing).
In checking what skatole is, I read its wikipedia article which mentions that it is added to cigarettes as "a flavoring ingredient."
yum!
Well... at least the thread delivered what its title promised.
Here is a similar thread with some responses which might help:

I don't find it sharp at all. On me, it is extremely smooth and somewhat sweet. The comparisons to the brash M7 which are bandied about are completely different from my experience. I like it, but...
+2 -- I love that stuff. Its my favorite Bulgari so far. I never could decide why I sampled it since I don't like rooibos tea (which isn't tea at all), but luckily it smells more like black tea...
If you don't mind some citrus in your green, try Eau de Cartier by Cartier and Live Jazz by YSL
I voted for eau d'orange verte, but I would have said Jean Marie Faina (Extra Vielle) by Roger and Gallet if it had been on the list. Citrus isn't my thing, but I am rather fond of that one.
I didn't find either overly floral, but I suppose The 3rd Man would be get my vote for that one due to its softness
I like both, but PuH better.
None of the new four remind me too strongly of anything I have smelled, though there is a lot I haven't smelled.
From using the shower gels (and ignoring descriptions from the company), my rough...
2 suggestions:
1 - wear something light and clean. Mugler cologne, eau de cartier, etc. Soapy might help
2 - if all else fails, get a couple body washes in your favorite scents. I often go...
Tom's of Maine unscented deodorant
For soap, I use whatever body wash I like the smell of at the store. I sometimes go with unscented, but it kinda bores me.
I will not be confined by your labels!

citrus, soft lavender, leather, powdery vanilla, anise are all deal breakers for me when they are present in substantial quantity. Each are fine in very small doses though.
2 options:
1- make jacket smaller
2- make chest bigger
If it is just barely too large, you could try hitting up the bench press machine once a week for a few months, assuming you aren't...
Try Chic for men, by Carolina Herrera. Fruit notes aren't really my thing, but I like this one quite well.
you could try Very Irresistible by Givenchy. It is fairly light for a gourmand, and has a prominent fruit note. Think brownie with fruit jello. L'Instant by Guerlain is said to be similar, though...
doubful
Here are some exceptionally positively reviewed frags, however
calandre - http://www.basenotes.net/ID10212587.html
carven homme - http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120303.html
eau de...
Mugler Cologne is my new favorite, but it seems you already know it.
My other favorite is Un Jardin en Méditerranée by Hermes, which is green, fig, and citrus.
Try Aramis New West. When I smelled it on a card, it really reminded me of Yatagan. Another member said the same thing a while back, and attributed it to the pine in them.
I don't think it was a refill. It says "refillable" on it, and came with both spray and splash caps. I'm not familiar with the different bottles though. Really happy I found it though.
Yatagan, for the gunpowder note? Well, he probably smells like gunpowder anyway, so I guess he could just eat some celery and get the same effect.
I sometimes wear things with mint while studying, since it is supposed to help you concentrate (I think)
I own a bottle of Live Jazz, which gets used for this. I have a Guerlain Mentafollia...
2 TM colognes at $20 for 75ml. Purchased one. Hadn't read this thread lately, and nearly shat a brick when I saw it.
bvlgari black
So far, out of the 5 or 6 I have tried, I like Eau Parfumée au Thé Rouge the best.
Black was interesting, but kind of nauseating in large doses to me.
Pour Homme is ghastly, unless I got a...
Here's a thought... if you hate blind buys, why don't you not buy it and sample 10 frags instead? I have made 5 cheap blind buys. I still have 3 of them (2 given away as gifts). All were...
I always think that eau de cartier smells like herbal shampoo... in a good way, mind you.
Maybe you could get by with a light application of a barbershop frag (Rive Gauche for example) under the...
Something pompous and expensive-sounding. Creed, maybe? Is that taken? :)
Nah, I'd go even more pompous and not name the company at all, but put some sort of symbol on all the ads and bottles...
If I buy enough junk that I feel that i need to insure it then I am doing something wrong. That goes for most things, not just frags. I don't like being held down by lots of stuff. Of course, I...
It is my favorite by RL that I have tried so far. Definitely more mature, but I don't find it too out of place on me at 25. My GF likes it too.
Only tried l'occitane vetiver once, but I wasn't impressed. The vetiver was gone in twenty minutes, and all that was left was nutmeg, which I'm not really that fond of it seems. I will try it again...
I should also mention that I am planning to sample some cheaper niche scents soon, but it sure took some effort to find out which ones could be had for a fair price.
I personally avoid "niche" frags. Yes, it is price.
There are a few reasons I don't bother to sample them either. I prefer to sample things I would be willing to buy. I also do not sample...
Ooh, that looks like a fun site! I like that they do sample sizes. Maybe i'll have to place an order soon.
thanks!
How would you go about finding a good frankincense oil? I was thinking about this very same thing today. Are there good internet sources? How are prices?
I'll add a vote to kenzo power, and suggest gucci pour homme 2.
It has a really nice tobacco note which lends it an interesting character for a modern fruity-fresh scent. Unfortunately, the tobacco fades quickly on me (and I think most), and what remained was...
Its pretty amazing that people are still managing to get mad while discussing this topic, considering we have seen it so many times. I enjoy a good argument now and again, but you could at least...
Sad as it is, in each of these posts there is at least one fragrance I have never seen in the neighborhood midwest department stores.
Favorites actually available in mine are Gucci PH2, Tommy...
The tobacco is the only reason I don't own a bottle, despite it being my favorite vetiver that I have tried. I should probably try the flankers.
I like most tobacco notes I have come across, but...
I never have gotten any citrus from PuH either. Is it possible you were smelling a different fragrance? Caron does make a line of light, unisex fragrances, and perfume manufacturers sometimes do...

it is all well and good to go all fire and brimstone on a forum, but you might as well make a quick call to see if you can get your money back too. If for no other reason, then for the...
So far:
Summer favs:
Gucci Pour Homme II
un Jardin en Mediterranee
Jean Marie Farina
Terre d'Hermes
Kenzo Power
cool, thanks! maybe i'll toss a 1ml on my next sample purchase
terre d'hermes is not carried by department stores where I live, it depends where you are. If you live in a larger city, they should have it in a sephora or upscale department store.
I agree with the Kenzo Power suggestion. Haven't tried the cologne version, but the fraiche (original) is very nice.
My all-time favorite light, floral, designer scent is Eau de Cartier. Some...
I understood what you meant, i just didn't have any use for a metaphor when we can discuss the actual facts. I think at least one or two of you understand what I mean, and I am thoroughly bored with...
It should be clear to all that I am not an idiot, regardless of whether you agree with me. The reason behind my posts was to advocate my opinion about the hypocrisy of the responses in this thread. ...
Sheesh.. I'm trying to get away from this topic here.
So, you are saying if I were to own 20 different pets it would be more normal than owning 20 cats? Because I would get bored of petting...
you have got to be kidding...
Ok, so your point is that pig farmers are crazy. I understand.
I am really done with this discussion because it isn't going to go anywhere, just couldn't resist responding to this one.
I have clearly stated in each of my posts that he has a problem.
How is his compulsion to purchase scents different from that of anyone else here? Every time I visit this board I watch people...
People seem to still be not understanding my point, so I'll try to reiterate again. Being more blunt simply because the point didn't seem to get through, not trying to piss anyone off.
We are on...
In a very basic sense, the utility of purchasing commodities is simply to make you happy. All I am saying is that a collection of different scents does not have more intrinsic value than a...
Yep, i caught that. I think you might be missing the point of my post.
And someone with 200 bottles of the same scent isn't a collector? How about owning vintage, flanker, and limited editions of the same scent? How about owning 50 different fougeres with a couple...
Of course you are a hoarder. You have way too much perfume for anyone who isn't. Then again, it is very probable that every person who has responded has more perfume than they need. As near as I...
m7 is the best, BK is best for the office and blind buy
That said, none are office frags (haven't tried XR though), and none are good candidates for a blind buy :)
Probably going to get these for christmas. I like the whole pull-on thing because I am too lazy to tie shoes. Nothing too fancy, but I like the look of them and I've been wanting a casual boot.

I used to wear a ring (gold with onyx or obsidian, always get them confused) given to me for my high school graduation by my grandparents, but I need it resized. Currently looking for a scarf for...
How many of your frags have similar stockpiles to back them up?
Some of you guys seem to have missed the post where he said he has twelve bottles of Millisime Imperial. He bought 10 bottles of a...
Well, if it isn't creating any problems in your life, you can buy whatever you like. I will freely admit that it seems very strange to buy 10 bottles of a scent you consider sub par.
Was it a...
Weren't you the guy whose wife told him not to buy any more bottles of cologne? How is that going? :D
