  85. Current Kouros, Sport, Fraicheur, and The Man Silver clone

I tried out Kouros for a day and as soon as the dry down hit, it had a strong element of urine and I was thinking, "I can't be around people smelling like this." It was still a great scent, but not...

Re: Adventures in vintage Avon fragrances

Wow, you came through. Thanks! I will be looking into this.
  87. Re: Classic Match Version of Polo Green - Still Recommended?

I'm tempted to get this but from what I remember it smelled like it had oregano in it. So much so that I expected to see some floating in the dark yellow juice. I really wish the company had at least...

Re: Quorum vs One Man Show

Yeah, nope, OMS is not going to work for me. I tried to scrub this off with soap but I can still smell it. This was really in fashion in the 80s?* I'm not trying to put the scent itself down, because...

Re: Adventures in vintage Avon fragrances

I found a place selling a bunch of vintage Avon fragrances. I got a whiff of another bottle of Avon Leather and I THOUGHT it might have smelled cleaner than the bottle I had recently. I wasn't too...

Re: Quorum vs One Man Show

You're description of the transitions is on point. I also get this great old school green opening, then it's a wonderful 50/50 mix of Halston 1-12 and Quorum, and then as it dries down further it...
  91. Re: Beverly Hills Polo Club: please share your experience/opinions

I really liked the Beverly Hills Polo Club "Rogue" which I'm guessing is supposed to be their version of classic Polo. The real Ralph Lauren Polo is great, but I find the dry down can be too...

Re: Eating crow: The house of John Varvatos

I didn't want to post this in the "John Varvatos Files for Bankruptcy" thread because I don't want to fuel the spectator/unicorn market.

I'm kind of addicted to "collecting" fragrances, and while...

    ROSS
I saw two bottles of John Varvatos Dark Rebel (2.5 oz)! I bought one. This and Artisan Pure are sold out at places like Fragrance.net so I was kind of bummed out. But I managed to get Artisan...

    Re: Aramis New West.

I'm getting a little braver with my fragrance choices, less concerned about what's in fashion and just with what I like. I remember the reformulated New West as having a nice opening, but after a...
  95. Re: Collectors: what, why, & how; and do you ever think you might be 'addicted'?

    Yes.

Part of it is nostalgia. My dad had a collection of cologne, and we used to make special trips to this one perfume shop to by specific fragrances that weren't as common like Santos de...
  96. Re: What do you consider to be the best flagship "Pour Homme" fragrance?

I'm going with Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. I really enjoy it, but it's also because I haven't come across any other "Pour Homme's/Uomo's" that are as distinctive.

It seems like it was a trend setter...

    Re: Kouros Clone

There's a strong, weird plastic-like smell for the entirety of the fragrance. Yeah, this is definitely not smelling good.
  98. Re: Can you school me on old school "fresh" fragrances?

And yet, it was still helpful to understanding the fresh genre. And without your post I would have forgotten about New West for Men. I had sampled that a while back, maybe three years ago. Not what I...
  99. Re: Can you school me on old school "fresh" fragrances?

All the replies have been incredibly educational. Thanks everyone.

I guess what I'm looking for doesn't really exist in the 80s or earlier. At least as far as I interpret "fresh." I still plan on...
  100. Can you school me on old school "fresh" fragrances?

I wanted to get into 80s men's fragrances when I first signed up at Basenotes and it took a lot of forum discussion and a lot of trial and error to understand that era and also what worked and didn't...
