Default Portrait Of A Lady Vs Lyric Man

I really love POAL but heard that Lyric Man is another nice rose frag. Was wondering what the consensus is. Should I stick with Portrait or is it worth sampling Lyric Man?

Stick with POAL as it is a well constructed scent with many layers. Lyric Man is a very feminine over the top rose scent. Good in small doses but over-apply which is easy to do and you get that girly rose shampoo vibe.

I'm a big fan of POAL, but because my wife wears it, I tend to associate it with her, so if it were for myself, I'd go with LM. If you don't have any specific associations or bias towards either, then I like POAL better.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'd go with POAL.

Both are quite interesting. PoaL is very nice, but your question was "is it worth sampling Lyric?" -- absolutely.

It's worth it to sample about 30 other rose fragrances also - Agarwoud, Jardin d'Amalfi, Lumirer Noire Pour Homme, New York Oud, Rose d'Araibe, Rose Oud, etc..

Try as many as you can IMO. Personally, Lyric Man is really nice, but sometimes it is a little feminine and soapy to me. But I suggest you try a lot before deciding on any single one.

    Yet another preference for PoaL.
They are very different. I perceive Lyric Man as more shrill, and a bit too sporty-masculine.

I HATE Lyric Man. It smells like Arabic rose soap bar, with added vanilla that makes it disgusting. I can't stand to be around it.

I love Lyric Man, but PoaL is the best smelling composition I have sniffed to date. Both are easily purchase worthy.

Portrait of a Lady is pure romanticism, a poetic and bohemian piece of art while Lyric Man is dark bachanalia, "luxuria" and soapy somnolent bliss.

Lyric Man for me all day. I tried PoAL and had to wash it right off my skin. I have no desire whatsoever to smell like that. Discarded my sample as well to make sure i don't put it on and spray it again by mistake.

Lyric can be challenging if you overspray but its an excellent scent in moderation.

Stick with POAL. I find Lyric Man very feminine. I actually think Lyric Woman is a more masculine fragrance.

Lyric is good, but no comparison to PoaL. It's on a whole other level. Ten ml's will last you forever. Use it like a parfum. I couldn't imagine spraying this one. I have to dab it very sparingly in a couple different areas. Amazing one of a kind juice.

I see there is additional high praise from Darvant. Apparently, POAL cannot be missed.

Thanks for the kind words. Just like everyone else, I have my set of preferences and PoaL plays perfectly to them. That said, to my tastes it is indeed as good as it gets (at least out of everything I have sniffed to date).

    Same here

Although, I thought that Lyric Man had suffered a reformulation -- thinned it out, so might be worth sampling again

I always thought my nose is broken.

Lyric Man got reformulated I think. It's better now but I still think that POAL come ahead in this matchup.

Lyric man is junk. The only reason people do not treat it like the drugstore ladies flower deodorant that it is is because it was put out by Amouage (for a still inexplicable reason). Stick with POAL. But that's just my opinion.

The Malle is essentially a very refined Rosenpatchz - hence the appeal to many . . . the patchouli offsets the rose beautifully.

The Lyrics do not use patchouli. Personally I prefer Lyric Woman to Man - it has a jammy, winey thing happening that gives it substance and depth, while Man is more in the style of No. 88 and other 'masculine roses' with a bit of a musk / soapy barbershop thing. I own both.

Hold on to your Lyric woman bottle, because the latest incarnation is neither jammy nor winey.

It's hard to fathom how one can recommend portrait of a lady and bash lyric man for being feminine. If you're gonna wear a woman's fragrance anyway, what's wrong with lyric man?

They are different enough for you to own both. A little OT but for 'dirty roses' I actually prefer Rose d'Arabie to POAL.
